NCAA Football 2008 Discussion - It All Starts Here.

It would have been cruel, but the announcer should have said, "For the second year in a row ..." to start it off.

I predicted last year that Tebow would pull a Grover Cleveland. I stand by that.

One has to feel for Pat White: As West Virginia fell off the national radar, so did he.

There are plenty of players who have utterly outstanding seasons yet get no publicity. For example, Shon Greene from Iowa came out of nowhere to be one of the best running backs in the country.

Actually.... no. My daughter, who is a major fan of Rafa, mentioned something along the same lines.

Auburn has just hired Gene Chizik as their new head coach. It's just me, but I don't think it's a good idea for a school to fire one of the better coaches in the conference in favor of a guy who has gone 5-19 in two seasons at Iowa State (and is on a 10 game losing streak). He was, however, DC during Auburn's unbeaten season in 2004.

Iowa State's AD said Chizik's choice to leave after only two seasons was "hurtful and disappointing."

Auburn fans don't seem very happy with this choice. They were split on on whether to keep Tuberville, and I think were hoping for a higher profile coach to compete with the rest of the SEC coaches.

After they showed the vote count on the Heisman it became obvious why Graham Harrell didn't get invited to NY. Just about every voter voted for the top 3 dudes.

Yeah, knowing the vote, it's obvious why Harrell didn't get invited.

Code:
Player 1st 2nd 3rd Total
Sam Bradford, Oklahoma 300 315 196 1,726
Colt McCoy, Texas 266 288 230 1,640
Tim Tebow, Florida 309 207 234 1,575
Graham Harrell, Texas Tech 13 44 86 213

I wonder just how many people leaped from the Harrell to the Bradford bandwagon when OU swamped Texas Tech. It's fairly clear that Bradford won the Heisman votes from McCoy and Harrell because he had the last word, and the last crack at the audience. If TTU had beaten UT to close the season, I bet GH woulda won.

Jesse Palmer on Bowl Mania made me feel good picking Georgia as 34 points (highest possible) in his Bowl Confidence Picks on ESPN last night. Anybody else plays this? It's actually quite fun.

Looks as if what so many postulated when the Tennessee Vols hired Lane Kiffin, has come true: his dad Monte, from the NFL's Tampa Bay Buccaneers, will be coming with him. I have to ask if and how he will be able to implement a successful defense at the college level. Granted, the system he's been using in the NFL probably requires and NFL type of player, but is Monte sharp enough to craft a college version of it? Or design one that better fits the NCAA FCS type of player?

COnsidering all of the people who interviewed for the Auburn job, Chizik's hiring was puzzling. Iowa St? They haven't exactly been impressive. In fact, he's lost most of his games in his wo years there (5-19, according to si.com). Really makes me wonder what TPTB at Auburn saw in him.

I for one am glad Auburn passed on Turner Gill.

You see, I can't stand the Tigers and think Gill would have returned them to prominence in short order.

I think he's eventually going to end up at Nebraska.

Not good for Oklahoma. DeMarco Murray will miss the championship game. as he is due to have surgery on 12/22 to repair the tendon injured against Missouri. This is going to be interesting, because you know the Florida players are going to be smarting a bit from Tebow not getting the Heisman. But then with Florida's OC takign on a new job... maybe that will counter things a bit.

Regardless, I don't care. It's going to be a fun game to watch!
