The Robo-cop

I'll have to find someone in real life who is convinced that the Police officer in question is a robot/android or cyborg. I'd be willing to bet a significant amount of my Christmas shopping money against that
Absolutely.

The character is PORTRAYED as being "real." He doesn't ask the question "What is your name?" in a polite, "politically-correct" tone. He asks it like a schoolmaster would ask a bratty child... "WHAT... is YOUR.. NAME??" There is clear annoyance (and a clear establishment of POWER) in how he asks the question.

"WHAT... is YOUR.. Quest??"

"WHAT... is the capital of Assyria??"

"WHAT... is the airspeed velocity of an unladen swallow?"

What do you mean? A Klingon or Romulan swallow?

Shouldn't that say James R. Kirk as it appears in the episode?

Okay here's my definitive take on it.

Firstly the cop says "What is your name"; not "What's your name" so it's clearly a soong-type android as established in TNG.

I'm also willing to accept that it's a Breen in some kind of early version of their off-planet suits and that it will be explained that the Breen were originally members of the Federation.

Lastly, if it is a robot then what a waste if they didn't cast Peter Weller...

Thats hardly conclusive. 'What is' is just more formal and authorative than a matey 'What's...'

Totally conclusive. In fact I'd go so far as to say that's just a Soong-type android without skinjob.

Personally I'd prefer the cops from THX-1138 -- in fact I'd say Abrams owes George some money for that.

The internet can be funny sometimes, so just to be sure... Are you being serious or joking ?

I am totally taking the piss but trying not to get done for trolling ;-)

I have no feelings about whether this guy is a robot or not; I do think that if it's a robot they really missed an opportunity to have a Styx-style Domo-Oregato-Mr. Roboto-look going on.

Or Twiggy -- wouldn't that have been cool? Then he could have followed him growing up and been on the bridge: "bidda bidda bidda Kling-ons Cap-tain Kirk!"

Used to be in the robot camp, but have since come around to the cop being human. Orci said as much this week in his interview with TrekMovie.

It's a shame, really. I think it would've been much cooler if the cop was a robot. The complicated helmet, plus the electronic pop after he says "name," had me going for a while.

Not me, man. I knew he was human the whooooole time.

I want to know who did the voice for the cop. I do not think it was simulated at all. If you really listen to it, it sounds exactly like Dwayne Johnson (a.k.a. the Rock)

J. J. Abrams

No it's not, it's this guy.

He's listed twice for ST XI: as a stuntman, and as the Iowa Cop voice.

[You'd better read that entry again, MLB. It does not say "Iowa Cop Voice".]
