Worst Prison Camps

If you had to be held prisoner at prison camp ran by either Klingons, Romulans or Cardassians, and you were guilty of your crime, which one, do you think, would be really harsh in how they treat the prisoners? Let alone having to stay alive with in the prison population..

Re: Chocolate Bars

Oh, wait a minute?

Is this not supposed to be a discussion topic regarding those confectionaries produced in 1996 to promote the 30th anniversary of Star Trek and the Paramount Pictures tentpole film Star Trek: First Contact?

Surely, they must subscribe to some form of Universal Declaration of Human Rights similar to the one ratified by the United Nations back in 1948?

Or, do they operate more like Gitmo?

I dont know..the only scenes of 'alien' prisons I seem to recall are from TUC and the episodes where Work and Martok are fighting the Jem Hadar in that Dominion Prison (where Garak has to overcome his fear of closed spaces)

And it looked pretty rough...

Re: Chocolate Bars

I think it varies by personality and wouldn't want to generalize too much by species, but if I had to guess which camp would have the highest probability of producing the sickest puppy to run it, I might have to go Romulan. They seem to have a very repressive society.

Re: Chocolate Bars

though not technically a bar, i like those rocher chocolate/hazelnut things. i'm not really into the hersheys ones because the texture is a bit gritty. though for local ones i like m&m, but that's not really a bar. if it had to be a bar then i'll go for snickers or mr. goodbar.

Re: Chocolate Bars

If I recall the penal systems of diffrent species, on Cardissa the sentence is always know before the trial and the verdict is always the same Guilty.
In "The Undiscovered Country" we were shown a Klingon penal colony, it was called Rura Penthe is was known as the "Aliens Grave Yard" by Chekov. It was a frozen world, with the prison complex underground.
I'm not sure about the Romulan prison system, however if it's run by a Tal-Shiar like branch of the Romulan goverment, it would probably suck also. So, I am giving myself another option, I will plead guilty, but only if I can spend my "prison time" on Risa :)

Only stock market criminals would get to go there...

Re: Chocolate Bars

From my reading... I think I would prefer Romulans. IIRC about them at least.

I'd prefer being left alone in a dark dank prison with time to plan an escape than be tortured by the Cardassians or being in Rura Penthe(sp).

But I may be recalling their prisons wrong too.

It looked harsh, but it'd let me continue training/fighting so I suppose I'd find a silver lining in that, even if I had a high probability of dying

The prison camp in TUC seemed alright. Granted, it did have terrible living conditions and hard labour, but it seemed like one of those places that if you either proved yourself in a fight, or made the right friends - life could be rather comfortable.

Though if it was all pain and suffering, at least the Cardassians would have the decency to execute me reasonably quickly...

Re: Chocolate Bars

Of the three, only the Cardassians ever even hinted at humane (specific bias!) treatment of prisoners (after processing, of course, and assuming your crime was not worthy of execution).

Picard was being offered quite a posh sentence at the end of his "four lights" torture session.

David Warner, man... great actor but he's one of those guys who, if I ever met him, I'd have to go: "You're a wonderful actor! As evidenced by the fact that I hate you on sight!"

David Warner has been in so many movies I have liked...The Omen--Tron--TUC, yes and even the Titanic....My favorite Warner film is probably Time After Time with Tolian Soran...

Re: Chocolate Bars

Hmm...tough call.

We haven't seen a whole lot as to how the Romulans treat prisoners, though, so that's something of an enigma. We do know, however, that the mind probe can be pretty traumatic. Something tells me, though, that if you proved a worthy adversary, that might add some honor to your imprisonment and execution--perhaps make it swifter, less painful.

As for Rura Penthe...that's pretty damn brutal, especially for one with such an intolerance for cold weather like me (I mean, when I can actually have my way, I prefer the room temperature to be between 80-85 F...usually 83). And no doubt the work is grueling and the rations (probably) no good. I suspect it was the work that killed, or one's fellow prisoners, rather than torture from the guards.

As for the Cardassians...talk about knowing how it's going to end. The one "pro" in their direction would be that whatever's going to come, you're probably not going to rot in prison for decades on end (though it may happen if they think you'll be useful in a prisoner exchange? no idea). The torture, however--especially for foreigners, I would guess--seems like they've probably got it down to even more of an art than the Romulans or Klingons, and I have to admit I'd be very afraid of what they might choose to dish out.

I do not know where we saw any hints of "humane" treatment, when it came to the Cardassians, except for the fact that the Chief Archon wanted to make sure O'Brien's appearance was preserved for his little CourtTV appearance. Had that not been a stipulation, it's my feeling there's no telling what he would've faced.

All of these fates look quite ugly. Ultimately...IF my speculation about the honor component is correct, though...the Romulan fate might well be the most preferable, if you've conducted yourself in an upright enough manner to merit a quick and honorable execution.

(Though in my fanfic, there is a place called Lessek on an outworld of the Cardassian Union, where strange things have been known to happen... ;) )

RobertScorpio. I'm sorry, but your title makes no sense. Normally, I'm a fan of creative or different titles, but they have to have enough similarity for someone to be able to figure out what's being discussed (so they can find the thread again, for example).

I'm changing the title of this thread. Send me a PM if you want a different new title.

The Cardassian one might be the most brutal physically, although going by the way the Romulans treated the Reamans they too can be quite wicked.

I think the Romulans would subject their prisoners to experimentation in all forms, i.e. testing weapons and substances on them and also psychological studies.

Im not sure about the Klingons.

I'd say the worst is between the Cardassians and the Romulans but im leaning more towards the Romulans being the worse.

Oh, gawd. I'm not big on suicide, but those are not choices.

I'd go for the Dominion one, I know its not in the options, but people mostly seem to just hang out there, unless you're a Klingon.

Cardassia would be horrible- cold, half naked, teeth yanked, raped and beaten most likely...
Klingon's would probably be painful, and the Romulans would always be interrogating you- and in both cases you'd probably die.

We also saw a Breen prison camp on DS9, when Dukat and Kira rescued Ziel. A lot of these alien cultures seem to have some sort of 'send the prisoners to the mines' fetish. It reminded me a bit of Rura Penthe, except hot instead of cold.
