who you think the new batman in comic should be?

DiDio has indeed said that Bruce isn't dead and that he'll be gone for a while. This whole thing seems to me like a repeat of Knightfall just done a little more differently and without any physical ailments to Bruce. He's on a retreat.

Why would there be a new Batman?

Bruce Wayne died in a crash, that should be in the papers. Why would anyone suddenly take up the Batman persona?

Only because the person who does, knows that Bruce is Batman. Otherwise, who's to say Batman isn't just off on some space trip with the Justice League, or time travelling, or undercover in South America? Batman would have been out of Gotham for months at a time before, it wouldn't be remarkable until a lot of time passed.

So the only person who would take up the costume is someone who knew who Batman was, and had a reason to keep the character active. Why? Basicly to protect Bruce, so no one would think, gee, Bruce Wayne dies in a crash and Batman disappears.

So it would be Tim or Dick, probably Dick. It would only have to be temporary, just long enough to throw suspicion away from anyone thinking Bruce was Batman.

Why would that matter? Because the Batcave, all the technology and information is under the mansion. So it either has to be destroyed, moved, or someone replaces Bruce to protect it. It's too great a resource to throw away, and why move it if Dick can put on the Batsuit for 6 months?

How about R'as Al Ghul?

(I'm actually sort-of kidding, 'cause I'm with everyone else who says it should only ever be Bruce Wayne. But you could do some interesting stories with a R'as-as-Batman storyline...)

I'd think you'd want to keep Batman the idea alive. How much of an effect does Batman have with people just know that he's there in the night? Take him away, and then there's an nice big opening for people who fear him to make a big move.

The world would be a better place with a Batman than without; and as keeping him in it is so easy there's no reason not to.

Here's perhaps a better question: Obviously SOMEONE will be filling in for Batman....but who will be filling in for Bruce Wayne? How will they explain his absence?

In Booster Gold #10, Rip Hunter's chalkboard has a note that reads "Jean-Paul Valley lives!" So, either he didn't die when shot, or Superboy-Prime's reality punches brought him back.

That board is in an alternative universe.

Well how do you explain this then Joe?

And to continue through the plan, Batman and Detective will go on hiatus for three months beginning in March, and in March, April and May, we have Battle for the Cowl, which is a three-parter, and we also have a second three-parter, Oracle, following the adventures of Barbara Gordon which follows events of Birds of Prey and picks up some storylines from Final Crisis, and we also have a three part Azrael miniseries that will roll out during that period of time as well, which will be integral to the events taking place in the Batman books.

I think Batwoman will take over and Gotham's villains will have a total field day and run ape-$hit until a more needed than every before Bruce Wayne Batman returns...
