Snow, very colourful! That must look lovely in the summer! 
If I want something on my arms, I usually end up getting a quick henna tattoo, which I'm sad to see washing off after a couple of weeks...

Very true, but I have no issue shelling out money for something that will be with me forever. I also am very involved in the design, for my tattoo I was up there talking to my artist pretty much everyday talking about the different drafts she had done. Luckily, she loved that I was so involved, since as a college town a lot of people put little to no thought about there tattoo. We had a good dialogue and respect during the process, which made it much more exciting and enjoyable.
I wish I had the guts to get a forearm tattoo, but there are just too many possible situations where it wouldn't be appropriate... especially for a woman... imagine she's going to a formal evening out, and then there's this great big whimsical tattoo on her forearm... just a tad incongruous.

I had mine done in late September which is past sleeveless weather here in Canada. My co-workers and friends have seen it; however, the little old ladies at my Church haven't.
It is a bit incongruous for the general public, but for me, a well done tattoo is one of the most attractive things on woman. If a woman has a tattoo she instantly becomes cuter. I strongly endorse tattoo's on woman. :thumbsup:

Get quality work. If you can't afford it, save up for it. As Nobody says, it's for life so treat yourself to the best.

It really was a wonderful experience. It was so amusing to see the bafflement on the faces of all the twenty-somethings: "What's this old [in their eyes, not mine] lady doing here??"

This tattoo is of my own design:
The hummingbird is a symbol of peace in many Native American cultures -- I'm half NA, and wanted to recognize that without using traditional designs. I'm not a traditional kind of girl. The body of the hummingbird is the Nordic key to heaven (I also have the key in silver on a chain):
The key is dated to around 200 AD, when Christianity was first making it's way north. The Nordic pagans didn't believe, but were concerned enough to make keys to heaven, just in case. I'm an Atheist, but I really appreciate that kind of logic.
My other tattoo is more obvious:
I got it done when I was very young, and had it retouched by the artist (a much better artist) who did my hummingbird.
My next goal is to sort of work the two into one piece that will be a 1/4 upper arm sleeve. I want to use an image from a bubble chamber as my inspiration, but I'm not sure exactly how I want to do it yet.
I'm not too into piercings. I used to have an industrial in my right ear, but it never quite healed and was just too uncomfortable. I wish I still had it, because I really liked the way it looked, and I've considered going to a better shop, but it hurt so goddamn bad that I don't think I could do it again. It was waaaaay worse than tattoos.

True - and I made sure that they used no grafts - metal is creepy enough w/o bone from some dead person added in. I may have it removed b/c it is a risk - esp if I break it a 3rd time....better off w/o metal at that instant.

Don't blame them, they had deprived childhoods. Their parents wouldn't buy them legos, so they overcompensate as grown-ups.
I never really paid attention during my surgery rotations, but don't they try to use autologous bone grafts, from your own iliac crests or whatever, rather than cadaver allografts?
Such a same to ruin your beautiful body in such a way TSQ.

Plus I think it's going to be hilarious as this generation gets older. First real group to go this crazy with tats, so when they start fading and sagging, with wrinkles, it'll be fun to stare and and figure out what they used to be

My tattoos mean a lot to me, and I can't wait to get the final piece -- the image from the bubble chamber that will bring the two into one complete 1/4 sleeve.
