Wow that is really hot!

Thanks! It took 5 1/2 hours to get done so it better look good! :)

I will probably be getting my tattoo in the next week or so.

Any advice from the tattooed freaks of this board?

Should I put a salve on it? Leave it to heal without? If I should use salve what kind? Is neosporin best?

I used something called aquaphor which worked good. Just ask your tattoo artist for aftercare tips (they usually give you a list anyway) and follow it from there. There first bit will be horrible and you have to resist itching, it's a horrible feeling. :)

I use aquaphor on my lips. I didnt know I could use it for a tattoo. My tattoo will most likely take 3-5 hours and it will be on my back so scratching it will be difficult if not impossible.

As the others have said, ask your artist. If it's a good studio they will be selling a product they believe in.
I used (and still use) H2Ocean which is specifically for tattoos.
Your tattoo will start to peel slightly after a few days. Use the moisturizer!

I've gotten conflicting advise on tat aftercare. Some tell me do wrap it up with something especially at night, some tell me to not wrap it up. Some people tell me vaseline. Some people tell me Tattoo Goo, H2Ocean, A&D ointment, wash every hour on the hour, wash twice, three times a day with unscented antibacterial soap.

What to do...?

[angel & devil pics]

Shouldn't the devil traditionally be on the left side and the angel on the right in these sort of representations? Not that it matters of course, it's only a vague general tradition I think, but I was just wondering if you chose which side was which for any reason?

NOT VASELINE!!!

I have an armband tattoo. It was bandaged afterwards and I kept it on until the next morning as advised. I washed it twice a day for the first three days, and applied the H2Ocean afterwards. I probably moisturized a little extra those first few days. That was it.
And you must not allow anyone to touch it for a few weeks for it takes that long to heal (not the surface healing but deeper).
I had no problems but then I have the constitution of an ox.

Yeah, I just used non-scented lotion on it after I took the bandage off. I don't think it's that critical what you use on it, as long as it's kept moisturized and clean. The only things I've heard to definitely not put on it are scented lotion and vaseline.

That would depend.......
In Islam the left is always the "bad" side.....
If you are facing me they are "correct" to you.......

BUT
I simply thought they would be better facing inboard.......

Pics are done when fresh - esp b/c colors are better and .....no hair....

They are still very bright after a shower of lotion.

The "Wheel Girl" is a local pop artist - COOP
I designed the angel version (Angie) to match.

I used green tea soap to wash my tattoo since it is scent free. Also, I did use A&D ointment afterwards from washing with the green tea soap. One other measure that I took that was helpful was using Curel original formula lotion on the tattoo (again scent free). Of course, the shop should give you instructions on tattoo care.

One piece of advice that I did receive that was helpful was after a few days and the tattoo starts to itch (BADLY!). I just rubbed around the edge of the skin around the tattoo. It helped with the need to want to scratch the tattoo.

Also, thanks for the comments on my tattoos. Good luck with yours....I am a little jealous as I would love to get another one soon...very soon.

^ I'm thinking of getting an half-sleeve relatively soon, and am totally excited about just the thought of it. The damn things are addictive. :)

And expensive if you want quality.

This was covered by my healthplan, but not sure if it is ART:lol:

Mine took ages to heal (it's a family coat of arms)... mostly because it's on my left shoulder-blade and I kept rolling onto it whilst sleeping, displacing the protective covering in the process... since it was trying to form a crust (the skin behaves similarly to when you have a scratch), I'd wake up with my top sticking to my healing skin, and an inprint of the tattoo on my PJ's. Crikey!

It settled down after a week or so, but I certainly wasn't expecting so much maintence and discomfort after the fact (it seemss my skin is more sensitive than average)... Fortunately, it doesn't appear abused at all, considering what I did to it!

I still take care to moisturise it at least once a day, even now after a year. Next year, I hope to expand and detail it (to no more than 5cm across in total). And this time, I'm not going to sleep on it if it kills me. :D

I got this a few years ago, because I like the whole good/evil black/white balance and moderation in all things 'philosophy' and not many people know Mayan symbols so it isn't just another yin-yang or whatever.

Of course, since then a at least one company has taken to using it as their logo and I've run into two other people with variations of the design. I've always planned to build on it eventually and designed a large part of the addition about a year after I got it, but since I keep going back and forth in my career goals, I'm not sure i want a forearm sleeve just yet.

It isn't nearly so crisp anymore, I really like the way fresh tattoos look, that glossy and slightly raised texture is just awesome. I wish mine would look like that all the time.

^ Have it touched up, a lot of places do free touch-ups, if it hasn't been too long since you got it. Great placement, and fab design. :D

I wish I had the guts to get a forearm tattoo, but there are just too many possible situations where it wouldn't be appropriate... especially for a woman... imagine she's going to a formal evening out, and then there's this great big whimsical tattoo on her forearm... just a tad incongruous.

^^ Don't I know it. :)
I had mine done in late September which is past sleeveless weather here in Canada. My co-workers and friends have seen it; however, the little old ladies at my Church haven't.

^ I would agree it's best they haven't.

I'm mostly scared of my grandmother... she thinks only degenerates have tattoos.

^^We'll just have to change their minds then. :)
An ex boyfriend of mine was rather taken aback when I told him. To him tattoos meant biker chick whore; then when he saw it in person, he actually conceded that it was feminine and very me.
Sorry about the quality of these photos. Time to show my tattoo here rather than just talking about it.

I created something similar to this in the beginning and then we incorporated a lot of elements from an 18th century bracelet I saw in a museum catalogue.
It's very me - colourful and geometric.
There are 8 gemstones in 4 colours.
