Bratz Dolls Banned by Federal Judge! YAAY!!!

Bryant knew what he was signing and what it meant. He's a big boy. He could have walked away.

If it was clearly proven he created and designed them while working for Mattel, I have no pity for any money he may lose or any lawsuits he may encounter.

I hate people trying to weasel out of their word.

On a side note, we writers know going in exactly what we will and won't own if we sell to Star Trek. The creator of a certain TOS race was persona non grata for a long time on the Paramount lot because s/he insisted on royalty payments. That's why we never saw this race again for almost 30 years after it first appeared.

Seems like Mattel's greed, finally a force that threatened Barbie and they can't fucking handle it.

Never understimate how Mattel gets over barbie. My dad was involved with a project to do with Australian Cooking but shown in the U.S (long bitter story) anyway they were going to use Shrimp On The Barbie with barbie being an Australian expression for a barbeque.

Supposedly Mattel got wind of it and started making threatening noises about the use of barbie.

The project collapsed so it never became a real issue.

I knew a guy that worked for 3M and he had a great idea - so he kept it to himself until after he left. He got a patent later.........that's the way to go.

The Irish...?

Hah! Everyone knows the Irish were invented by L. Ron Hubbard.

Who ? The Tellarites maybe ?

Edit - I'm wracking my brain on this one. I've gone through every TOS race who appeared in later series I can think of. Vulcans, Romulans, Klingons, Tellarites, Andorians, Organians, Gorn, Tholians, Horta, the lot. All of them made appearances on Star Trek well within the 30 years mentioned.

I was not... repeat not... invented by L. Ron Hubbard. :klingon:

And I have to agree with several of you here. The Bratz line is extremely creepy and more than a little inappropriate for kids. I say good ridence.

Actually, I'm pretty sure I've heard this story, but I can't remember the details. I think it had something to do with the development of Voyager or Deep Space Nine; they were going to use the race for one of the characters, but decided not to because of that writer's claims. Or I could be misremembering....

When I say "appear" I mean one of them on screen or "in person", not just a passing mention or one of their ships flying by.

Back to Bratz. (One of the worst movies of ANY year, BTW)

So who was it?

I'm sorry, but if Mattel passed on the bratz, my point of view is that at that moment he was free to do whatever he wants with that idea

Well, you didn't knowingly and willingly sign a contract stating otherwise in good faith and then go back on it.

All he had to do was approach Mattel and ask for a release to peddle the concept to other companies. Sure, they might have said no, or asked for a percentage, but that's the thing to do.

I pitched a number of game ideas to Nolan Bushnell back in the 1980's when I worked for his Axlon Games. He said no. And I knew I couldn't take them anywhere else without asking first and getting the OK in writing.

The race in question is mentioned in the above.

That is all.
