Favourite Offscreen FX

Just for Fun. What are your favourite FX shots they never showed in Trek?

I think one of mine would be dumping the warp core in Insurection. Shot from Geordie's point of view, with the warp core being surrounded by a forcefield before disappearing through the floor, leaving behind the empty chamber and La Forge peering down to the base of the ship. Much better than 'core in space' shot they went with.

What else was there?

Always wanted to see a beauty pass of Enterprise D that saw the ship approach, stayed up close to the neck and the top of the secondary hull, passed in between the nacelles with the camera turning, giving an extreme close-up of one of the passing nacelles and then watching the ship pull away. They probably couldn't have done it with the physical model when the show was on but it would be easy with CGI today.

Show more of Earth's cities. I'd have liked to see cities I'm familiar with like Washington, D.C., Springfield/Hartford, Boston and Cincinnati.

Wolf 359 and the vast majority of the Battle of Sector 001 come to mind. (for that matter, surely the Mars Defense Perimeter consists of more than three measly drones).

Also, I would've liked to have seen the first few battles of the Dominion War, including the Starfleet/Klingon victory that happened while DS9 simultaneously fell to the Dominion.

The Equinox's first week in the Delta Quadrant fighting off the Krowtonan Guard.

Or unseen events from Year of Hell.

I think the many interior spaces of the E-D, especially after seeing some of the concept art by Andrew Probert.

In First Contact Riker tells Cochrane about the cities on the moon. New Tycho City, is one of the ones mentioned, I think. I'd love to have seen the moon and her cities.

^Don't we get a small glimpse of them in the opening credits of Enterprise?

A few Earth cities would have been nice too. I was always intrigued by the mention of New Martim Vaz in Earth's Atlantic Ocean in TNG:Survivors.

Was this an aquatic city, with Domes and submarines? An artifical island or on stilts maybe? I had always hoped something like this would have turned up in Trek.

I also think it was a wasted opportunity that Africa was never shown as green and lush when view from orbit, or maybe use unconventional places like North Korea, Haiti or Cuba to show how Earth had changed politically and environmentally.

It would have been nice to see earlier stages of the Delta Flyer construction.

I think that they have something like that on the TNG Tech Manual CD.

I would have liked to see the battle between the 7th Fleet and the Dominion.

I don't think the Earth's government would have mucked around too much with Earth's environment. However they might have done the following to Africa: The Sahara might have been contained and the Savannas might have received a more regular rainfall. But changing Africa into a "lush green", and I would infer from your statement, a fully tropical or temperate climate would have been devastating the animal life adapted to the deserts and savannas of Africa.

I hadn't considered those niches to be honest, but I suppose, with complete control of weather cycles some small desert and savanna habitats could be maintained artificially. Environmental interference doesn't have to be at governmental level though, individuals and organisations would take advantage of the technology to manicure their own living spaces. Even desert settlements would have lakes and green open spaces because they are nice features and the technology and economy would allow for it.

Another nice shot would have been a truely, or even vaguely, alien ecosystem. Bizarre flora and fauna, an alien forest maybe, with blue or red leaves, yellow bark and fluffy eight legged rabbitesque creatures.
