USS Aventine

I love your work Sean, and I had an idea for the Aventine. When i looked at your website and saw the design for Federation One, I thought that ship, minus the top rollbar would make for a good contender for the Aventine. Or keep the rollbar and turn its center section into a weapons pod, like the Miranda?

just a random thought I had.

Looking great. Can't wait to see some move views of it. I can say I'm loving this more than the original concepts now.

There hasn't been much activity on this thread in some time, but now that Star Trek('s) Destiny is complete, I wanted to put in my two cents (for whatever they are truly worth), at least on my vision of what the USS Aventine looks like. While checking out Sean Tourangeau's work on Deviant Art, I encountered the USS Avenger, which to me, is the perfect fit for the "advanced" design Aventine. My apologies at this point on two counts: first, I don't know how to post images or add links, so if you want to see it, go to deviantart.com and search for USS Avenger. Second, my apologies to Mr. Tourangeau...while I love your Titan design, your Aventine design seems a little too "usual" or predictable for the way Mr. Mack describes the ship and it's systems and capabilities. Whenever I read about the Aventine, I picture the Avenger. The Avenger also truly seems like a starship that can go one on one with a Borg Cube and have a true chance of surviving and even defeating the Cube.

I also have to apologize to Mr. Bennett...while I respect your opinion on whether or not starships should be "aerodynamic", considering they mostly operate in the vacuum of deep space, I think the description of the Aventine calls for something that's never been seen before, and again, I think the Avenger fits the bill. BTW...I agree that Destiny is Star Trek's Lord of the Rings...I therefore think that the equally excellent Greater Than The Sum, is the Hobbit!:)

Am I the only one who dislikes the SotL image? I've never liked the triangular saucers - the Dauntless, the Prometheus, or this.

It's a safe bet that some portion of the fan base would dislike our hypothetical Aventine, no matter what creative direction is chosen.

True, but then there is the other portion that would like it. I learned alot
about that with the Titan Contest.
To be honest, I'm not all that keen on the SotL image in the slipstream. It looks like something Tom Paris cobbled up from spare parts. So I do think starting over would be the best idea since what we have now is not all that wonderful (IMHO).

I am hoping that someone with artistic talent will give us a good vision for what it could look like. Would be cool to see it look like it fit in the fleet with the Defiant, Voyager and Titan.

I am working on Design sketches, they are not offical or anything.

I just want to echo what Sean has said and stress to everyone that there's no official effort underway at the present time to develop the look of the Aventine.
But if you like his design, would you maybe concider going with it with whatever mods you felt were needed?

Eh? What does JWolf's triplicate tendencies have to do with authors and editors?

Fictitiously yours, Trent Roman

Well sorry it has taken a little while to post sketch ideas on the Aventine, but here are my first four ideas.
I will sketch up more as I get the time.

Is it possible to have a ship design not based on that picture from SotL? I really don't care for it and would like to see original designs.

As you may have noticed I have moved on from this. I do have a few new ship concepts on my deviantsite. I am sorry that you don't like my designs.

Without going into too much detail just yet, I can say that in the months since I posted the above, a fortunate confluence of circumstances has led to our undertaking the development of an official look for the Aventine. The work began just over four weeks ago, and is still ongoing. Artist and other details to be announced soon. Stay tuned.

That's some fantastic news, so like story ideas should we stop posting sketches and the like of what we think she looks like?
