True, but then there is the other portion that would like it. I learned alot about that with the Titan Contest.
That's a pretty safe bet when every canon ship has its own set of detractors. (And for the record, I think the Luna-class is pretty cool.)
I for one am not a fan of that image being the Aventine, as I said way back in this thread it made me feel a bit sick when I first saw it. Now, if it were a form of Troop Transport, I would be happy with that, say for the rescue mission to Korvat, in my personal opinion it just does not strike me as a Starship.
The Dauntless was a fake Federation ship but it didn't look all that bad. I like the SotL image as a starting point, except for the tail fin, unless that is some sensory device for assisting the vessel in slipstream and then slides back into the hull along with the nacelles for warp speeds, because it certainly looks like the nacelles and tailfin do retract.
I just noticed... how come that ship has a tailfin?[/quote] Because some things NEVER go out of style, like tailfins and bubble domes. And you can never find a horn when you need it. And I want it to play "la cooka racha"
Personally I like the Dauntless, the Prometheus designs. I have a soft spot for the different ideas in ship designs like those or the sphere hull on the Daedalus class. But then again I am a bit different!!
I am hoping that someone with artistic talent will give us a good vision for what it could look like. Would be cool to see it look like it fit in the fleet with the Defiant, Voyager and Titan.
This tread just demonstrates why cars designed in the states don't do that well in places like Europe!
I just want to echo what Sean has said and stress to everyone that there's no official effort underway at the present time to develop the look of the Aventine.
