A mistake - did anyone else catch it?

In Kobyashi Maru (ENT), there was a spot where they refer to Hoshi as a Lieutenant, but in the rest of the book, she's an ensign.


Also, I'm not sure if it's a mistake, but the date references correspond to the events in TATV, but the dates themselves are around the time of Demons and Terra Prime. - Take a look into it and let me know what you think!

Its been a while since I read The Good That Men Do, but

if I remember correclty, it established that the events of TATV did happen at that time, not several years later as indicated in the ep.

As far as Hoshi is concerned I didn't notice.

The real events that were 'dramatized' in TATV happened in the present, not several years in the future. It was a Section 31 plot that made the holodeck re-creation so different, so that Trip's false death would be successfully hidden and any lingering inconsistencies would not be dwelled on.

I watched Enterprise on and off for the first two seasons before giving up (I tuned back in for the last two or three eps, but still wasn't impressed, and the only episode .) But I bought The Good That Men Do because it looked like an interesting premise, and it's gotten me into buying Kobayashi Maru and probably whatever's going to come out after that.

I think The Good That Men Do does fairly well trying to explain the gaping holes in TATV, and while the ENT books aren't anywhere as good as my favorite Trek lit, they're decent enough that I'll keep reading. I think that part of my difficulty with the ENT novels is that I don't particularly have a favorite character or characters yet - like you, I found the ENT cast fairly bland.

The thing about these books is they do what the series really couldn't do for me: they make you actually start to care about the characters.

You find out that instead of being wall paper, Hoshi and Maywether are actually crew members! Imagine my surprise.

But seriously, it is worth your time to read them. Especially since I think the upcoming romulan war stuff should be great.

And this is coming from someone who wasn't a huge ENT fan. I tried watching season two and thought it was absolutely horrible.
Season three was better and I liked season four, but I still never was all that interested in the characters or their fate. But the books changed that.

So read them. Or at least The Good That Men Do. I never did read the MACO one or the Hoshi one that came before, and I don't even know what they are called.

I didnt catch the mistake... but I do really enjoy the books. I think they give the show more depth. I did watch each episode tho when it was on because it was.. well, Star Trek after all.

Out of all the crew (which includes two actual secret agents, one of whom wouldn't need sugery to blend in either) they pick Trip?

I love Star Trek, but if just being crappy is grounds for de-canonization, we'd have to say goodbye to vast chunks of it.

I didn't love it but I thought the last ten minutes were great -- as good as any Star Trek finale. I liked the revised uniforms, Archer's dress uniform and the tweaked color scheme for all the displays. That being said I like TGTMD 10x better.

If TATV was set on the Titan and Trip got killed in a conflict with the Romulans it would have been much better. Have some promotions for the crew and show Archer's speech and it might have been up there with WYLB and AGT.

I was disappointed with The Good That Men Do. It took what had been a simple, nonsensical incident and turned it into a complicated, nonsensical conspiracy; and it didn't help that the book spent half its time on Tucker, a character I could easily do without. I picked up Kobayashi Maru in the hopes that, without the perceived need to rewrite an episode, it won't be as absurdly convoluted nor focus so much on Tucker, but it's been sitting on my shelf for months as I prioritize books I have more of an immediate interest in reading.

You have to remember that the specific mission related to the Roms engineering a new Warp 7 drive, and Trip had seen Romulan engineering up close previously. Makes a lot more sense than committing suicide because a gang of pirates boarded the ship.

I did notice in Kobyashi Maru that Enterprise beat it's own best time to Qo'noS. In "Broken Bow" it took 4 days to get to Qo'noS, in KM it only took 1 day to make the trip. You gotta love those engine upgrades.

C'mon now,it was 4 days in 2151, by '56 they cut it down to 1 day, by the 24th century it only takes minutes, duh.

No but seriously, in the 2100's there weren't any space highways yet so of course it takes a shorter time if you off-road it. In the future they have to be dignified and take the "official" route, which ends up being more scenic anyway.
