I miss the old ship.

Nardpuncher

Rear Admiral
I just finished book 2 of the Destiny trilogy and enjoyed it, but I haven't read the A Time To... series, so sometimes I forget that Data won't show up (well, that was Nemesis) among other things.
I wonder if there will ever be any TNG books set during it's original mission. I miss having everyone back together.

If you want stories about the TNG crew during the series years, IDW Comics has done a few and will probably do more. As for novels in that timeframe, it's always possible if the right idea comes along, though I'm not aware of any current plans in that vein.

There may be a dead-tree version of Slings and Arrows in the not-too-distant future (assuming you haven't already read it in ebook format), which has plenty of Data-y goodness.

I don't read comics.

I share the same sentiments of the original poster. I do miss the old crew but I don't mind the split. I just hated to see Data get axed.

I think we all did. It was such a waste of a character that was never going to be onscreen again, but could have lived on indefinately in the books.

As Bill said, there's always the Slings and Arrows miniseries, which chronicles the first year of service of the Enterprise-E leading up to First Contact. Most of the gang is together for it -- the only exception is Worf, but he is in Book 6. :)

At present, the tale is only available as six eBooks, but the soonest we'd see a print compilation is 2010.

Book 1: A Sea of Troubles by J. Steven York and Christina F. York sees the Big E on its maiden voyage, only to discover that there's a changeling infiltrator on board.

Book 2: The Oppressor's Wrong by Phaedra M. Weldon shows the Big E's side of Admiral Leyton's coup d'etat ("Homefront"/"Paradise Lost"), and also introduces new security chief Lieutenant Daniels (from First Contact and Insurrection).

Book 3: The Insolence of Office by William Leisner highlights Troi and La Forge -- the former to deal with the birth of her half-brother, the latter to face a critical decision regarding his VISOR.

Book 4: That Sleep of Death by Terri Osborne sees Crusher trying to cure a plague that is running rampant through the ship, with some unwanted help from the ship's EMH.

Book 5: A Weary Life by Robert Greenberger has Riker confronting the ghost of his "twin" Tom Riker, as he is sent with Daniels and La Forge to try to stop a Maquis weapons shipment from happening.

Book 6: Enterprises of Great Pitch and Moment by Keith R.A. DeCandido is a full-bore TNG/DS9 crossover as newly elected Federation President Min Zife sends Picard and Sisko to try to open a dialogue with Chancellor Gowron to end the conflict with the Klingon Empire.

The links are all to SimonSays's pages for the eBooks. I'm quite proud of this miniseries, and I strongly recommend it for them that miss the pre-Nemesis days. :D

Check out a used book store, ebay, etc.. There has been a steady stream of TNG books coming out since the show started. You can read hundreds of stories involving the original (tng) crew that way. Just don't expect them to be continuing stories like new Trek lit, they are mainly self contained with a few exceptions. They are also of wildly varying quality, but you can find a few authors that you enjoy and pick up their stuff.

I haven't read it myself, so I don't know if the stories are any good, but there is also the short story anthology The Sky's the Limit, that was released as part of the TNG 20th Anniversary along with Slings and Arrows.
