So, will this be the reason why Starfleet gives Kirk his Captain’s stripes? We don’t know that Vulcan is going to be intact by the end of the movie? In the previews Vulcan looks beat up when Starfleet is evacuating it. Abrams could let Nero destroy Vulcan with his core drilling machine, or maybe’s their’s a semi-reset button with the help of Nimoy’s Spock.
Perhaps, but I must say for all of the talk Abrams does about how silly Star Trek's concepts are, the idea of a bad guy named after a Roman emperor attacking a planet with a giant spacedrill doesn't seem a bold move forward. I suppose not putting fins on the spacedrill will modernize it.
The destruction of Vulcan (assuming Nero succeeds) will probably be one of the things that is reset by the end of the film.
I don't think they would do something that drastic. Not permanently, anyway. As I said in another thread, any *really* altered timeline that exists in this film will probably be put back more or less normal by the end. (We may get a TOS that *looks* like this new vision, but the things that happen in it will all probably be the same as in the original show) And since Vulcan is obviously still there in TNG, the timeline we are left with at the end of ST XI will probably respect that.
Yeah, besides Spock and Sarek...there's been so many....er...interesting...Vulc... their whole planet's kinda crap, isn't it? But honestly, I hope to god there is no reset switch. Just DO SOMETHING FOR REAL IF YOU'RE GONNA DO IT. God help me if he reset switches ANYTHING BAD IN THIS FILM.
