That's not true at all. Why would ABC want a show that gets less than 5-6 million viewers?
Stop grasping for anything, the show is dead, the best one can hope for is a movie.
The show used to get 10 million viewers, without repeating the first season for 10 months before the 2nd season and no advertising and having a hiatus in-between episodes, a long hijatus, ABC is at fault

Considering the ratings for Pushing Daisies were only 10 million the first episode, by the time the 9 episodes ended last season there were a few million less viewers. Viewers were ditching long before the strike took over, and 10 months off.
