Twilight opens this Friday. You may have heard of it.

One of my friends has been talking about alot it which means I'll be seeing it eventually in the next few days. I already have a vague interest in vampires already since I'm a big Buffy and Angel fan so I'm curious. With Potter and Star Trek XI being moved to next summer there a real lack of scifi and fantasy movies this winter. Hope it's good.

I'm reading the first book since I usually read the book before seeing the movie. It's fun. Since I saw the trailer first it's nice that I already think of Bella like Kristen Stewart and Edward as Robert Pattinson. :)

I saw the movie tonight. There was actually a huge line to get into the theater a full hour before the movie started that I had to wait half an hour in before we were allowed to take our seats. Overall the movie was great and very true to the book. The characterizations were pretty much spot on for me even if I still have a reservation or two about Bella. The guy playing Jacob isn't at all how I imagined him either.

My two biggest gripes about the movie are the special effect used for Edward in the sunlight is very weak and not at all how I imagined it and the movie should have been longer. Many of my favorite scenes were trimmed or cut entirely and I found myself thinking of lines unspoken. I worry that when New Moon gets made into a movie it will be even more painfully obvious the amount of material that is cut for time.

Overall: Above Average (very close to excellent)

My GF who read all the books went to see it on opening night and she said it was awful, just silly and hammy with almost no action and really bad special effects.

It's a bloody teen romance movie with vampires and werewolves tacked on. It should come as no surprise that it sucks.

I followed the unofficial TrekBBS rules and voted based on the premise rather than an actual viewing of the movie. So there!

I just saw the movie. Above Average.

I liked it. Since I checked out the book beforehand I didn't have any problems following the story. I think the movie follows the book closely for the most part but I can't say which is better so I'll say they are just different. I can't believe that some people are complaining about the lack of action since it was the same way in the book. The romance was okay and the vampires were cool. I always liked that in this universe there are no the stake through the heart and sunlight kills stuff that usually goes with the vampire thing. The vampires playing baseball was goofy in the book but it wasn't too over the top in the movie. The best parts of the movie were definitely the music, mood, and cinematography. Kristen Stewart as Bella and Robert Pattinson as Edward were good. Bella is cute so it was a plus that she was onscreen for like 95% of the movie. Glad I saw it. :techman:

I posted "Excellant" for my daughter who saw it today. She's 11 and is a huge Twilight fan... She and my wife had nothing but glowing things to say about the movie and she's dying to see it again, which is rare...

Me? I took my son to see Bolt... That was a fun little movie...

Yeah, I was a little bummed that they didn't talk about Alice's backstory in the movie. It was really important in the book and only would have taken a few minutes to explain in the movie.

I think the actress that plays Alice was great though. Nearly all the supporting cast did a good job.

Number one movie of the weekend. Summit Entertainment has got to be really happy that Potter moved to next Summer. In any case glad to see the movie doing well. :rommie:

I give high marks to the cinematographer and fond the actor playing Carlyle Cullen to be the most interesting vamp. My date told me he has 400yrs of history. That coupled with his restraint, teachings, profession despite being a vamp and self control make him the most interesting imo.

Alice and Jessica are both more attractive than Bella. Ok except the scene in her underwear maybe.[IMG] Kristen Stewart should age well though.

The trio of bad guys come across as very 2-dimensional. James is only lacking a mustache to twill. There is no reason, despite the so thin it doesn't hold up one, that James should want to track Bella across 3 states to kill her. He has never met the Cullens or Edward till the 3rd act and has no reason to want to kill her for spite to show Edward up. The fact he is a crazy good tracker and once locked onto a scent must continue the hunt is one that just doesn't hold. Sorry.

Edward. I'm told by my friend his portrayal was just as it should've been. Well good, if you read the books cause I thought his performance was sub par. However, if that is how he is supposed to be I'll cut him slack. I liked the Jacob character and I'm told he becomes a werewolf, cool. I may see New Moon to see that. I also understand they travel to Italy. So maybe the sequel will eclipse(no pun intended) the first one in terms of quality and story.

Some lame dialoge. "Hold on my spidermonkey" [IMG]
Sorry Stephanie Meyer but Vamps need to hold to some consistency. I get if you want them "less threatning" but some elements should stay in play.
    Vamps in Twilight can:
    -have a reflection
-bite and draw blood without fangs
-be in the sunlight, the downside is they glitter[IMG]

How about crosses, garlic and silver those weren't addressed. When they were cooking Italian for Bella I tried to see if garlic was included in the ingredients.

Congrats on it making $70m+ it'll no doubt go on to make $175-200m but its an average movie. However the 12yr old girl next to me giggled through half of it out of, I guess, sheer joy on what was done right. So, in that regards kudos to the filmmakers. If that girl is any indication, and $70m likely is, then they made the movie most were expecting.

I took my sister and her friend to it yesterday since there ain't much to do in hawaii in the rain. I found it to be pretty terrible and imagine the source material is probably pretty much the same based on how much they loved it.

The concept is solid, and many of the characters have potential, but it is just really sloppy and safe and most of the character development feels more driven by plot than the characters themselves.

My sister read the books and said that the movie sucked.
    She said:
    a- Acting was terrible.
b- Plot did not hold up.
    c- It was boring.

It was okay -- not great, but okay. It was far better than I had anticipated. My fiancee had read the books, and she didn't seem to enjoy the movie as much as I did.

I went in with very low expectations. It didn't even meet them. The room was packed, and the audience was laughing almost constantly.

The movie isn't a comedy. They are laughing because it's so bad. It was almost like they took the scene from Star Wars 2 where Ani is saying stuff like "I killed them. I killed them all. They're dead." added in with "Your skin is soft. Not like the sand." and expanded that shit to two hours plus.

In a scene that is supposed to be completely, deadly serious with Eddie glowing, the entire room broke out in hysterical laughter, which continued for the next several minutes.

I'm not sure how anyone can call this "excellent" as it was horrible. There were no redeeming qualities to it. Nothing at all.

I feel inclined to agree with you. My date, 31yr old woman, asked me not once but twice why there were giggles and snickering. She was enjoying the movie.

There was an 11-12yr old girl about 3 seats down and she was giddy the whole time. My answer to my date was that some were likely snickering cause of the cheesiness and some were giggling, like the 11yr old just down from us, because it was just what they imagined.

Personally I was laughing on the inside for just how bad the acting and dialoge was.

I didn't have any problems with the acting. I wasn't expecting academy award level performances obviously.

I'll admit many of the supporting cast were better then the two leading actors though. The older adult actors that played Charlie (Bella's dad), Billy and Carlisle were the best out of the cast.
