The most consistently loved scifi show on the BBS?

We on this board are fans of a great many scifi shows, as you might expect, but of course, we don't always agree on which ones are the best, or even which ones are worth watching. What do you reckon is the show that seems to be consistently enjoyed by the largest number of people?

To my mind its Futurama.

nuBSG is loved by some, loathed by others.
Stargate is similar, although seems to provoke less extremes of emotion.
All the Treks have their detractors. TOS is probably the least contraversial.
Everything Whedon has done is quite polarising.
Farscape has quite a few critics - muppets in space?
Doctor Who has the "its an unoriginal kids' show" crowd.
Even B5, which I had considered for the title, quite regularly picks up charges of bad dialogue, poor acting and cheap effects.

The newer shows like Lost, Heroes and Terminator seem to gain and lose fans for varying reasons week on week, probably because they are so serialised.

However Futurama never seems to get people saying they just don't like it. Of course, we argue about whether new Futurama is as good as old (IT IS DAMNIT!) and what our favourite episodes are, but I don't think I've ever seen anyone say "its just not funny, why do you guys like it?" like I have with all those other shows. And its not a niche show either, it seems to be known by most people here.

Trek shouldn't be eligible. This is a Trek board after all. Even if it's mostly not very good! ;)

Let's start nominating shows that it might be, besides the ones mentioned:

Brisco County Jr.
Firefly

Actually people have been bitching and moaning about the new Futurama movies pretty much nonstop ;) And everyone but me hates Star Wars it seems... I would have thought Firefly but I guess there's a vocal group that hates it? I also would have thought BSG even though I only moderately enjoy it.

I don't think there IS any universally loved scifi show :p

I'd have to say TNG, despite all the crap about it being "politically correct".

I think most people here like TNG, I know I do, but I have noticed it catching a fair bit of flak recently, for being "PC, boring, and eighties." My point with Futurama wasn't really that we all think its the best show ever, but that no-one ever seems to have a problem with it. Most people seem to like it.

Battlestar Galactica is the most popular non Trek show around here, but as far as being the most consistently liked, I'd go with Babylon 5.

There seems to be a pretty genuine love for The X-Files here -- especially when there hasn't been a thread in some time -- but I'd hardly call it the most consistently-loved show here.

Unfortunately, it's probably not The Prisoner, Farscape or nuBSG (do people still call it that?).

What about the original Twilight Zone or MST3K?

It'd also be fun to do a "most consistently-hated show" poll. I nominate Andromeda.

If the measure is "consistently loved" as opposed to "numerically popular in a poll", I'd have to agree. Every other show has a fierce contingent of critics, even if it is small. I never hear this show bashed. But maybe I wasn't paying attention.

BSG is my favourite show, but its got a lot of pretty vocal critics. I'd vote for it in a "What is your favourite show?" poll, but not in a "Which show divides the board less?" poll. I think that's the difference.

I like Star Wars, prequels and all, the clone wars movie and tv series. Have not seen the holiday special, so...can't comment on that

That's why I didn't initially start with a poll. And I don't think the fact that people have debated the quality of the new movies counts as disliking the show. People only debate the quality compared to how the show used to be, meaning they did at one point like it. I've never seen bashers of Futurama in general come into a thread about the new movies.

I love it. The only comedy I love more is Monty Python.

As for TNG, many of the shows people are suggesting here wouldn't even have made it to air if TNG hadn't been a success. It wasn't exactly easy to get quality science fiction on the air in 1987.

Firefly. The only criticism I ever notice is "It didn't run long enough to judge correctly"-and once someone made a negative comment about "cowboys in space" I think....
