Seriously, wouldn't Simon Pegg look more authentic with a Scotty wig?

Seriously, couldn't Abrams just covered up Simon Pegg's "V-shaped" receding hairline with that of a Sean Connery-esque wig during filming?

Since Abrams went the trouble to dye Pegg's hair black to match James Doohan's hair color duing his "younger days," why not just go all the way and coverup that receding hairline so that he can more authentically pass himself off as the original Scotty?

This is not a nitpick like Scotty's missing finger, but something that could have been easily fixed like the way Zachary Quinto wears a Spock wig when he is in character, Karl Urban combing his hair to suit DeForest Kelley's hairstyle, or Chris Pine dying his hair blond like the way Bill Shatner used to wear a blond straight wig before he traded that in for a curlier, dark brown wig by the time of TMP.

Could'a, but didn't.

So it goes.

Re: Seriously, wouldn't Simon Pegg look more authentic with a Scotty w

Yea that would have been a good idea, same with the new Chekov.

Re: Seriously, wouldn't Simon Pegg look more authentic with a Scotty w

Of all the parts in the movie, Pegg looks the most like the original actor. I don't see the point in changing his hair. Do I fail to see where this is a look-alike contest?

Re: Seriously, wouldn't Simon Pegg look more authentic with a Scotty w

With Chekov, Anton Yelchin's hair looked a lot more like Chekov's in "Charlie Bartlett" than it does in "Star Trek." Odd, that. Yeah, I guess they could have had Pegg grow his hair or wear a wig, but he looks pretty close as it is. It wouldn't have been too out of place for either of them, since it looks like 60s hairstyles are at least fairly frequent in the movie. But they didn't. It's no biggie.

Seriously, these are new actors. Get used to it.

Re: Seriously, wouldn't Simon Pegg look more authentic with a Scotty w

To make the "Paul-McGillion-should-be-Scotty" faction happy they should take McGillion's real Scotty-esque hair and through the miracle of fx put it on Pegg's dome. Viola, all fans are happy!

Re: Seriously, wouldn't Simon Pegg look more authentic with a Scotty w

Someone else needs to speak for him as well, he sounds nothing like Scotty

Re: Seriously, wouldn't Simon Pegg look more authentic with a Scotty w

No, putting wigs on the actors is ridiculous.

Other than Quinto, they've made the smart choice to let the actors look like themselves. Good on them.

Re: Seriously, wouldn't Simon Pegg look more authentic with a Scotty w

If he'd been wearing his Starfleet-issue sombrero no one ever would have noticed!

The constant use, in this particular forum, of the modal auxiliary "should" will never cease to amaze me...
:)

No.

They are playing Kirk and Spock and McCoy and Scotty and the others.

Except for Nimoy playing Old Spock for a few scenes in this movie, the actors from the original TV series aren't cast in these roles any more. The studio has recast with new actors. Period, full stop.

Let's introduce a noun and a verb...

Hmm...noun... "Canon"

Verb... "reboot," as in, "to reboot"

Put it altogether:

"Canon...should...reboot"

Interesting. :p

Umm...

Exactly what does Scotty even LOOK like? Didn't James Doohan have THREE different hairstyles over the course of the original series?
TOS Scotty and TUC Scotty look NOTHING ALIKE. I was born after TOS aired, so I never saw it until well after seeing the movies, and I think the first time I saw young James Doohan, I had no idea who he was supposed to be.

Or maybe these fictional characters are not completely determined by their appearance.

Like I said, then they should be different characters. Why use same characters that look different?
