Wind Pipe created from Stem Cells!

That is very cool! Makes you wonder where we'll be ten years from now. Growing new hearts?

What an amazing breakthrough!

Meanwhile we've still got people in this country want to shut down stem-cell research as 'immoral'.

I keep saying the Singularity is due in 2025, this makes it seem that little bit closer. Also heard about research on growing new organs like kidneys from stem cells.

If only we can survive 2012...

Just for the record, those who object on moral grounds object to embryonic stem cell research. The woman in this article benefited from her own adult stem cells and other healthy cells from her own trachea. :)

Stem cells are amazing little things, aren't they?

I've had two microfracture procedures on my right knee over the last year. During this surgery, the surgeon drills holes into the femur and creates a divot in the bone. The bone marrow leaks out to form a blood clot over the site. The stem cells in the bone marrow get "switched on" in the knee space and begin to form a "fibro-cartilage" that bonds to the blood clot and forms a replacement cartilage like substance to provide cushion in the knee. The goal is to avoid or reduce the likelihood of arthritis or knee replacement in the future.

I can honestly say that my knee hasn't felt this good in 2 years.

This stem cell therapy was derived from the patient's own stem cells not fetal stem cells.

That being said i don't think Fetal stems cells will end up being used in patients, but they are a invaluable tool in helping determine hot to activate adult stems cells. They are a research tool, not a cure all.

Yes, isn't that wonderful!

Now, when can they make new teeth buds so I can grow some new ones?

wow. :wtf: is it possible some day they could make a human being from scratch with this method or is that the stuff of sci-fi movies?

I think the argument was that Bush was vetoing all funding on a federal level, but wouldn't ban it outright. If he had completely moral objections he would push for a total ban across America, so there is no "moral" issue in this at all.

Stem cells come from sources other than a fetus?:eek:

Who'dathunk :vulcan:
