I still think it's a window/viewer combination.

Why? I don't see any real evidence of that in any of the pics, and there is no window on the outside of the ship from what we've seen.

And as further window-evidence I present you this: :D

Looks completely blank. There are three spotlights on what looks to be deck 2, but they don't seem to be the right size. The Kelvin's window on the other hand is clearly visible. It's an older design so I like the idea of design progression. I'm not really opposed to a window, but I still see no evidence of it. In fact, this picture seems to confirm that there is no window.

Does anyone know what the bar code scanners are for?

There are two on the helm and two on the "hostess station"?
For scanning peoples credit cards for the drinks, of course.

Yeah, this is the future! Bar code scanners are everywhere.

In one of the earlier promo images it shows Spock standing in front of the viewscreen, and you can see the top of the saucer with part of the registry on it,

Yeah, I think that's where this notion came from, but it could just as easily be because of the camera angle - reverse shots on the viewer (such as the one in INS) can include the edges of the nacelles, for example. It could be a window, but I see no reason to jump to that conclusion.

My creative technobabble on it:
---
3 Dimentional image gleaned from exterior sensor data, made to look and feel like a Window in "Default" mode.

The display superimposed form a HUD-like interface, and the viewer can display any frequencies, data or angle afforded by computer and/or sensor data, and is also integrated into the Communications systems for 2D or 3D display of transmitted data.

If you look at the Bridge being built in the teaser, it is clear that no portal for a Window exists.

Nope.
The spotlights for the registry are a little lower.
There might be others lower down, but that band of light is not a window. Its the wrong shape, in the wrong place, and there are others like it to the port and starboard.

Yes, and there are big doors on the sides of the bridge that seem to lead to other rooms.

Perhaps I'm as wrong as Dale was with his 'clouds', but I'm pretty sure that it is a window.

Maybe, but if it is the bridge is sunken into the lower dome, the light coming through is the wrong color, and too bright - even for the gleaming white STIV/Apple Store bridge.

Janeway: 'Must be the polarization-output of the window.' (or something like that. ;)

There's no way to tell from that image what it is other than a glowy bit on the hull.

Even though the Kelvin is an older design that the Enterprise, she too has that window-like bit

And it's still impossible to tell from those images what it is other than a glowy panel.

I looked at the trailer again just now... at the point were they arrive at Vulcan, within the debris-field, we, again, can see the front of the saucer...
Yeah, it's a window.

I don't see the connection. Why wouldn't a viewscreen show the front of the saucer?

I mean, yeah, sometimes showing the front of the saucer might obscure various interesting things. But usually, it would not, as our heroes in all the shows seem perfectly satisfied with a view of things that they would get from a regular window.

Yeah, it's a window.

So, watching Insurrection, would you say that the bridge is aft-facing, with a window on the back? Cause they can see the hull through it.

While both of you have a point, I still stand by my observation :)

We alse still have those reflections on the glass:

And notice the bright light (from the Sun) coming in from the right side of the frame - through adjacent room's window? Quite probably.
