Bridge Layout guess

I still think it's a window/viewer combination.

Why? I don't see any real evidence of that in any of the pics, and there is no window on the outside of the ship from what we've seen.

Judging by the looks of the 'viewer' in those promo-picture, the Kelvin's bridge-module and the fact that we haven't really seen the Enterprise's bridge-module clearly.

Indeed, it's too early to discount the evidence for it being a window at this point.

Window! :p

Although, from that shot, it looks like it could a post TOS/pre TMP enterprise, its not, but it looks as if it fits in between TOS and TMP. Its a smooth looking design/refit progression.

KIRK:"Hi. I'm Starfleet's Captain James T. Kirk...captain of the USS Enterprise.

My first officer Mister Spock and I want to tell all you out there about a problem plaguing so many youth of today.

HOLOGRAPHIC SEX ADDICTION."

Looks like a window to me.
Nope, its too low on the bridge dome. Its just one of those light-bar things that the refit ship had. There are other to the port and starboard.

Inside the bridge there seems to be something directly behind the captain's chair. Another door?

And as further window-evidence I present you this: :D

Looks more like a TMP-style spotlight with a TOS-style glowy dome on top

Nope.
The spotlights for the registry are a little lower.

I don't think ANY Enterprise bridge has ever had a window per se, unless you count the portholes or windows in Archer's and Picard's ready rooms on their respective ships...or the circular "skylight" in the ceiling of the 1701-D bridge module.

I don't know- I think it can be a combination view screen/ window. It goes transparent like the windows in TNG (the episode with Troi's kid- she blackened the window)... Not a big stretch of the imagination.

As for the location- it looks like the bridge could be lower- inset down into the hull a little bit.

It's a window/display with variable opacity. So it can be a window, a display like in TOS, or a HUD with a graphical overlay enhancing the view.

Well the TOS viewscreen was a flat, electronic projection display. Never a window. Some people still think it was.

It couldn't have been a window... the bridge was off-set by 36° ;)

Which is what fans like myself...even if we were still kids at the time...knew if we owned books like THE MAKING OF STAR TREK by Whitfield. The B&W blueprints clearly showed the bridge never faced directly forward, so the straight-line, streaking stars clearly couldn't have been images through a window.

Does anyone know what the bar code scanners are for?

There are two on the helm and two on the "hostess station"?

Nope.

There might be others lower down, but that band of light is not a window. Its the wrong shape, in the wrong place, and there are others like it to the port and starboard.
