Official Trailer Review & Comments Thread!! [Spoilers, of course]

If it's a human, it looks to be rather hard to breathe and see with that thing covering the whole face. Why would a human need, or want, that? Is the air that bad?
Exactly. I could buy the argument that it's just a guy with a helmet on if the headpiece wasn't so complex. But it's not. I say it's a cyborg.

I hope it is, at least. A cyborg cop would be so much cooler than a human cop.

:borg: > :)

Wasn't there once some debate about the nature of Stormtroopers?
Police officer in the trailer aside, Stormtroopers would seem to be people in suits as Luke and Han were able to put Stormtrooper suits on in A New Hope. We never see the bodies, however.

The sophistication of Data was a unique achievement in the time of TNG (save for all the crazy Soongdroids the old guy left behind, of course). I realize that this production isn't beholden to that (or almost any other) tidbit of canon, but there generally haven't been many humanoid robots on Trek. (Okay, Roger Korby's toys are the other glaring exception. :D )

I was gonna say! You can't exactly claim that humanoid androids didn't exist at the time of TOS. The continuity error, if there is one, is that Data is so unique and surprising to the TNG cast.
My thought on the matter is that it occurred to someone that humanoid robots aren't actually all that useful - They're quite interesting as curiosities, but generally we want a robot to do a specific job, and would shape them accordingly. It's possible humanoid robots went out of fashion after the TOS era.

I heard a rumor that all the stormtroopers were cloned from one guy!

I know...crazy, right? :p
Yeah, forgot to mention that. If you go off of the prequels, all of 'em are clones of Jango Fett. Never any confirmation that the Stormtroopers in 4-6 were clones, but one might be able to reasonably assume...

Given the sophistication of humanoid robot design of today, I find it really unlikely something like this couldn't be built in one hundred years, let alone two. It might be a human with a helmet, but such a helmet is awfully close to the face. I'm voting for either a robot, or a technologically enhanced human.

NORMAN! Co-ordinate! ;)

"A renegade cop! A robot renegade cop!" ;)

Depending on how fast that thing can go it would be pretty tough to breathe and or see without protection.

Wow... seriously...

It's got a friggin breather mask on people. He's riding a high velocity hovercycle. I really can't wait for this movie to just come out...

It didn't look very Star Trekky in the traditional sense, but I have to say that was a pretty effing awesome trailer in and of itself.

That's not a Rock Monster at 1:43 of the trailer is it???

I think its a statue falling down. But, that would be hilarious!

this movies is Galaxy Quest! run!!

Scotty: Go for the eyes, like in episode 22!
Kirk: He doesn't have any eyes, Scotty!
Sulu: Go for the mouth, then, the throat, his vulnerable spots!
Kirk: It's a rock! It doesn't have any vulnerable spots!
McCoy: I know! You construct a weapon. Look around, can you form some sort of rudimentary lathe?

It reminds me a bit of the robot "Clark" in the movie "Futureworld"...Stuart Margolin's backstage-tech character had rebuilt him but without a face....

Ok.. Finally saw the "real" trailer after having to suffer through the el crapo version on Youtube..

Love it Love it LOVE it....

I'm really excited for this movie being a great telling of the origin of the characters we've come to know and love.

I'm not the kind of person to bare myself to the Sun on this.. Call it a measure of respect... I'm glad the ship and its interiors have been updated.. But also glad the essence of the original uniforms have been kept intact.. Having them in an Enterprise-esque jumpsuit would have ruined the overall aesthetic for me..

Even my wife, who is not a Trek fan by any measure of the word, is
looking forward to it...
