The New Enterprise in 3D! ... NOW FINISHED (threads merged)

Re: Ok, someone had to do it... The New Enterprise in 3D!

What are you using as a model for the top half of the saucer? I assume it's the teaser version, as that's all we have to go on? Also, is it me or are the Bussard collectors pointed like early 90s Madonna (In the source photo of course)?
I'm just using the teaser version, as well as Judxavier's speculation photos. I was building a version of that when the first photos came out the other day. :)

They do seem to be pointy, and mine are also, but not quite as much. I still can't tell how much of what proportion is correct, and what is distorted by the angle.

I haven't really gone too far with the top of the saucer. It just looked odd being flat. :)

Oh wow, Madman. I liked the design before, but your mesh makes me love the design.

Looks great. Ryan Church (designer of the new Enterprise) has said: "The true profile of the nacelles may or may not be revealed here, and that’s all I’ll say."

I predict the top cowling and perhaps the bottom extra piece are going to come off at some point revealing a more familiar engine shape. Might be interesting to imagine that.

Re: Ok, someone had to do it... The New Enterprise in 3D!

Any chance I could use your model in a mod for Star Trek Legacy?
Can you port Blender Meshes into Legacy? That would be cool to be able to do...

I can definitely port Blender meshes, so whenever you're done, you can just email me the model or something.

Also, maybe add a little more to the top of the saucer... it seems too shallow as is.

Thanks. :)

You're welcome! You do really good work!

That's been my suspicion also.

Oh, yeah, I haven't really started working on that part yet. :)

I'll definitely get back with you about the Legacy Mesh. That would be a lot of fun. :)

I wonder if they are going to show the ship "evolve" throughout the time periods in the movie... That would be cool. :)

I was tweaking the nacelles...

Does that look closer?

There is a problem right at the bottom of the dome where it is straight, but the image is too dark to tell what is actually going on there. I think it looks ok.

Re: Ok, someone had to do it... The New Enterprise in 3D!

I'm not at all sure the upper saucer is that flat.

Re: Ok, someone had to do it... The New Enterprise in 3D!

Okay with that top view it feels more like the enterprise we love. Hopefully that is what the real one looks like.

Re: Ok, someone had to do it... The New Enterprise in 3D!

I agree with the rest of the posters--the 3D version, particularly the accessibility of other angles, makes this ship look much better than did the leaked photo. Especially if the nacelles are booster-laden or otherwise going to be smaller once the ship is finished. Thanks so much for this! {ProfJonathan}

You know what... I see threads like this and it makes me chuckle a little...

I mean, our government pays people thousands of dollars to reverse engineer tech from other nations, to extrapolate what things look like based on intelligence photos, all for national security.

Trekkies do it for fun.

No wonder paramount has a love/hate relationship with the fans.

Great job by the way. :techman:

No problem... Could you do a version of the nacelles without those "intakes" under the cap domes?

I probably can, but it'll take some modifications. When I get finished, I was thinking about making some tweaks. I might try that, first. I'm worried it will look weird, though. :)
