It should have been saved for the trailer, it would have been much more of a shock

The refit Enterprise, mostly because of the way Robert Wise shot the thing in TMP. Just gorgeous.

My favourite was the Refit. I liked the original, but the refit just looked right.

I'm waiting for more pictures of the XI version to form a final opinion:)

I can imagine this ship's nacelles on the Serenity before I can imagine them on the Enterprise. :\

Naturally - or are you still talking about the XI Enterprise?

The first pic I saw of the refit Enterprise was in a model magazine and there, it just looked totally deformed (For one thing the the nacelles were pointed slightly downwards, and the front of the saucer section pointing somewhat upwards. When I saw that, I thought they'd butchered it, but when I saw a decent pic, that's when it became my favourite)

Well, the nice thing about the Refit was that it wasn't being sold to us as though it were the same ship. It was, after all, "an almost totally new Enterprise."

So both it and the TOS version still existed within the same "reality."

Now, you can argue that this new one and the TMP one existed with the same "reality," too. But you cannot argue that this one and the TOS one existed within the same reality.

So, for the first time in Trek "history," we're in a situation where you have no option but to decide... do we reject the original and accept the new, or do we reject the new and accept the original?

In a poll on that issue, I'm sure that about 55% of the folks on here would choose the first option (reject TOS) and 45% would choose the second (reject the new). Most of that 55% is probably those who grew up with the later-generation shows (with a small number of folks who've always envisioned themselves as being "better than other fans" rounding that out).

I'll see this movie. Once, and only once, most likely. And I might be surprised, but the combination of the sets, props, and the ship design, along with some "leaked scene" descriptions... tells me that it's what I really hoped it wasn't going to be.

Yes, I'll say the "word of evil"... it's a Reboot.

And I have no interest in a reboot. :(

And you've spent the better part of 2 days telling us all how 'uninterested' you are.

I voted for the refit, as I love it the most.
However, I do love the original, and the new design really has my attention. The more I look at it the more I like it. Sure I had to open a few windows in my mind to air out the idea, but it really is a fine design. I really want to see it in action to get a better grasp on it's overall look.

Somehow I knew the reboot was gonna lose... so I voted for it.

I think it's cool. It needs some support from the masses. :)

Well when I saw the refit as a child I thought it was real! :rommie: I think mainly because the special effects were using models and not CGI. I guess the new movie is going back to that so it might win me over.

When the guy who runs ex-astris-scientia.org hates an Enterprise design you know its bad. And even he grew to like the prequel NX-class look and feel.

Face it, Bernd didn't like a lot of things about the movie even before the ship pic appeared. And everyone's had... what... a day and a half to "grow to like" this one? His opinion doesn't really carry a great deal more weight than anyone else's, at this point.

    Amen.

And his comparison to a person who enjoys classic architecture decrying when it's smashed down to create something new would only be valid if all existing visuals of the 60's Enterprise were destroyed in favor of this one.

    That is not the case.
