Agreed. I'm not in love with what I see in this pic, but I could probably get used to it. Need to see it in its proper context to make up my mind properly.

fugly. after the fugly bridge and the fugly ship and those clip descriptions i'm really beginning to despair.
It's a lovely render and I appreciate the direction they went with the texturing. The real problem is the design itself is, as Brits say, naff.
It's ill proportioned, ugly, dated and frankly incomprehensible as a vessel apparently built on the ground.
I look at it and all I can "see" is "Phase II study model."

I don't especially like it... but I can live with it (if we are given a compelling story to take my mind off it).
So while I'm not that happy with it, I'd be willing to bet that Jefferies would have been fine with it considering that it does incorporate a number of his ideas from different sketches.

It has to be said: What an ugly piece of shit! Look what they've done to our beautiful lady. Matt Jefferies is hanging his head in disgust somewhere up there.

My thoughts exactly. The new design is actually a contradiction to what Abrams is quoted to have said. From his words, we should be seeing something like deg3d's work - which in my opinion would have been really exciting.
But it seems from the poll result that even here on the board not so many people are too concerned with the shape of the Enterprise; how much less will the general public care who cannot tell a 1701 from a 1701-D.
Graceless and unbalanced; all the worst aspects of 1701-D integrated with an abstraction of the original. If this is to be a prequel, it would've been nice to have gotten something less 'sleek.' I'm not going to lose any sleep over it ... but it's not the kind of woman I'd sleep with, either

It saddens me to admit I don't like it. It's the first Enterprise design that rubs me the wrong way. Even 1701-D and NX-01 had more going for them than this. It's a mismatch, hodgepodge design that looks like artistic direction took the form of finding cool elements from other designs.
The primary hull takes its cues from the redesign for ST:TMP. It's clean, elegant, and functional. I don't think there's anything inspired about it, and it also seems to be lacking a few functional elements (like the gangway and cargo hatches) of the original.
The warp engines lift ideas from Koerner and Jefferies. And while I joke a lot about an "uncircumcised nacelle", I think they'll look amazing when running at warp speed.
The secondary hull and connecting dorsal have a unique look that differs from the other major sections. They look a little inspired by 1701-D, but they're also very flowing and organic. I really don't like the way the undercut slices so far forward, nor how ascetic it looks along the stern. These might be optical tricks, however, and the ship might look better from other angles. But like a tongue irresistably probing a broken tooth, I can't stop looking at how far forward the secondary hull juts out.

If you look at the comparison shot with the refit it has windows in exactly the same places
I suspect that this is going to end up very much like Ang Lee's version of "The Hulk."
If the movie tanks completely, Trek is dead. If the movie doesn't tank, we'll see another "Enterprise" take in any future movies.
Personally, based upon some of the "leaks" (and on this image) I'm teetering between which one I'd rather see.
There is only one NCC-1701. You can "tweak" it or "polish" it, but to toss out the original design entirely (as has been done here) is unforgiveable. Sort of like making "The Hulk" into a genetic mishmash between jellyfish, starfish, sea cucumbers, and Eric Bana was...
Funny considering Eric bana is in this movie as well.
Seems all trek fans can do anymore is hate...
