If I was an American, I'd be a Democrat. with Presidents like Jed Bartlett and Barack Obama you can't go wrong.Very true Marco. Its what makes us human. But I also think it was Gene's belief that some of those views would shift more towards enlightenment.
I see a lot of liberal quotes and political slogans in people's signatures here, I don't think that is a coincidence. I know more people who have a liberal agenda that flock to Star Trek's message and storytelling. I'm not saying that makes us right or wrong, but I think it does fit into the view and message Gene was sending.
^Rightly or wrongly, people of every stripe want to see their sensibilities validated.
^One person's enlightenment is another's nonsense.
It makes me uneasy when people start talking about Gene Roddenberry as some kind of messianic philosopher. It's perilously close to L. Ron Hubbard territory, and I would hate to see fandom go down that road. Not that I have any serious expectation that it ever will...as long as we keep things in perspective.![]()

I rather think that whole IDIC idea was inspired. Was that Gene's idea, or another writer, though?
And back to the original topic, I'll be scooting by my "local" Borders tomorrow to look for the new issue of the mag. It's not really all that "local" since it's 30 miles away. They closed the bookstore that was just around the corner to put in another damned shoestore.

I got mine today, and so far Paul, I'd say you'd excelled yourself this time. Some nice pieces.Just updating this thread to say that copies of issue 141 (STM 14 US) should now be available around the UK - a bit quicker than recent times.
