Popular Sci-fi Shows You Dislike...

The whole point of Doctor Who is that it's not original. Ever seen the Tom Baker episodes that were a riff on the Mummy, Frankenstein, Forbidden Planet? Need I go on?

Smallville , I do not know why it goes on and on as being an silly teenage fun romp....

Both Stargates are quite awful...

Sarah Connor Chronicles , more like Sarah , her wannabe son and toy android goes shopping

Lost , who had done exactly why ? What is the point of being island ? What is the meaning of all those meaningless flashbacks ? Can they ever answer all these questions ?

Lost - looked interesting but I was reluctant to get into it and be drawn into a show that would probably turn into a morass of loose ends. Problem with shows like these is that the writers start out to dazzle the audience with their brilliance, but usually end baffling them with their bull****.

Well, they're definitely making it up as they go along.....but unlike other shows where that's true, they're doing a really terrific job of it for the most part.

I felt like season 2 and a lot of season 3 had a real sense of "Where the heck are they going with this..." But since they announced the series had a firm end date (the end of season six) it has had a real sense of forward momentum. It feels like they know the ending and are working their way toward it. The show has been firing on all cylinders since early 2007.

That's not true they thought up the idea of the Matrix years before thos movies came, Day Of The Daleks was an early version of The Terminator and The Ark In Space predates some of Alien by a few years. Even elements of Pyramids Of Mars had elements of Stargate in it decades before it came out.

Does The Ark in Space predate It! Terror From Beyond Outer Space, though? Does the Terminator-like episode predate the Harlan Ellison story that Terminator must now legally recognize as a source of partial basis?

It! The Terror Beyond Space has nothing to do with gestating insectlike aliens in human bodies and I think the producers lost their suit against Alien. The same can said for Harlan Ellison's Outer Limits scripts, his name was added to the credits to The Terminator, then later removed with the next release of the video tapes bacause Ellison settled out of court.

And IMO The Day Of The Daleks is closer to the Terminator than the Outer Limits eps.

And I think the same is true of The Ark In Space and Alien.

I can't quite fathom how Smallville has lasted this long. The writing is never particularly interesting. So many episodes are just mundane stand-alones about meteor freaks. And Lana Lang is one of the most obnoxious characters of all time! The show did have its good points, like Lex & Lionel Luthor and the occasional times when it would tie into the actual Superman mythology. But for the most part, nothing about the show was good enough to justify 3 seasons of this crap, let alone 8!

star wars. nuff said.
'Nuff? Not really. Why not detail why you don't like it? Despite it's long-running popularity and place in pop culture, there are plenty of people who don't like the franchise. Help make the thread more interesting and informative by talking some about your reasons why you don't care for SW?

first of all, thanks neroon for not being confrontational about this. it's quite refreshing. :D it's very constructive and open minded. :bolian:

the first thing i couldn't get over is all the need for flashlights when they supposedly have telekinesis. like i said before, it's like watching jean grey struggle to fight with weapons when she can just fend them off with her mind with less fuss. had they not included all the telekinesis stuff it would have been easier to take. let's just say i'm made to feel like i'm watching peter from heroes bungle things up and struggle when he has the ability to not make it that hard for himself. i have this thing about watching or reading about characters that make it harder on themselves when there's no need to. if they were doing it because of their set of values, then that might be easier to take. like superman not wanting to kill his enemies even though it's certain that the villain will surely ruin more lives later on. it's his value system and that's ok.

also, the lines feel like i'm watching old james bond (pierce brosnan era) where it's modern, yet the dialog is so dated to the point of campy (not sure if that's intentional). of course i'm basing all these on the recent movies. the old ones are ok, but they were only 3 movies and they were made in like 70s. i just never got what the "ooh ahh" about them was. they were ok when i saw them but i never really felt anything for them. had they left them with those 3 old movies maybe it would have been ok.

anyway, i guess it's more something that "i didn't or couldn't get into" rather than "dislike" cause dislike is a too strong a word. hey, at least i watched them and gave them a chance right?

Smallville, I stopped watching it midway 1st season because it was so boring and felt like another version of Dawson's Creek.

Charmed, I do watch it if I'm bored but I'd like it more if the villains didn't actually make me laugh or roll my eyes.

Terminator: Sarah Connor Chronicles... only .25 of one episode. Wasn't she supposed to be dead by then? Or does the timeline keep changing?

They jumped over the time of her original death, but I don't know how that was supposed to have saved her. Did Terminator tech cure her cancer?

It has plenty to do with Alien (and Aliens), but I'll concede the gestating alien part. I haven't seen a single episode of classic Who, so I was just asking.

I believe the out of court settlement gave Ellison money and a credit, which may or may not have been mistakenly removed from a later DVD release. I'm not an expert on that count, but I recollect that as being the story.

She isn't saved, she just isn't at the age where she would have developed cancer yet. She doesn't know if she still will.

Why wouldn't she? If she was going to get cancer in the original timeline, then I don't see how a simple time-jump could cure her. Unless something that originally happened to her (and which they avoided by jumping) *caused* the cancer, but in most cases it doesn't work that way.

Well, dozens of things can cause cancer, so it might be that by being removed from that timeline she avoids what does it to her. While cancer can be a hereditary thing that your body does to itself, it doesn't have to be, so naturally changing the timeline might prevent it from ever occurring.

I have never liked DS9. I could not even make it past halfway through the first season.

Yeah, Pushing Daisies is dull.

And Wonderfalls sucked too. So did Dead Like Me.

Let's face it. Bryan Fuller's shows really suck. All fanciful but also dull and uninteresting once you get past the "gee whiz" premise.
