Abrams: ST is silly and ridiculous

Everyone knows deep down that Abrahams is going to piss and shit and crap all over Trek's fucking legacy with this piece of shit movie, but some of us have decided to like it so no matter what UTTER ABORTION OF CINEMA he shits out of his talentless hack ass onto the screen we'll pretend it's BETTER THAN GODFATHER 2 anyway.

Bullshit. And who the fuck is this Abrahams guy anyway?

So you've seen it already? I'd be interested in knowing how you arrived at such a conclusion objectively.

Don't hold your breath about "objectively" from the "purists". Fundamentalism and "objectively" don't play well together.

Hilarious. Sorry, I don't have much more to add, but, Christ, I laughed. :rommie:

The designs weren't/aren't at all silly, but they've been put to silly uses over the years, by others, and have unfortunately come to be associated with such silliness by many. Silliness like the Trek parody episodes of "Night Court", "The Wonder Years" and "Seinfeld".
Which episode of Seinfeld would that be? I don't recall any episode where the look of the original series was parodied.

Not a big "Seinfeld" fan, so I couldn't really say for sure. I believe it was part of a dream that George was having, w/ George as Kirk, Kramer as Spock, and Neuman as, well Neuman, but a version of Neuman who dressed a lot like Kahn. (Then again, it may have been something for "Comic Relief" featuring the cast of "Seinfeld", and not an actual episode of the sit-com.)

The episode they might be referencing is the Season 8 premiere of Seinfeld. It sort of heavily references "The Wrath of Khan" and "The Search for Spock" throughout, ending with George doing the famous "Khaaaan" scream at the end.

There's a couple of possibilities here... and I'm probably far off here.

The cast of Frasier, sans Kelsey Grammer but with Kate Mulgrew did a "Voyager" spoof as part of the 30th Anniversary special that aired nationwide.

The Comic Relief thing sounds like this (but was a TNG thing):

VADER Abraham! i guess the other brothers are named Bane, Maul and Sidious.
 That isn't pronounced as way-duh. If I'm not mistaken, it should be something like fuh-duh or fuh-tuh.

Oh, I know 'The Foundation'. But the episode (nor any other episode of Seinfeld) doesn't parody the look of Star Trek.

Now that is funny! I've never seen that before.

from reading a lot of posts on this board, and others, i found it odd that people who are fans of a show that is well known for "preaching" open mindedness and all that are themselves being closed minded when it comes to this franchise. not willing to give things a chance, prejudging, and judging the book by it's cover and such. i can surely understand wanting to defend what you hold dear, but step back and look at it from a wider view.

just saying that give the guy and the new movie a chance. don't prejudge. when you see it and think it's utter crap, then you have the right to because you have already seen it and that's what you feel it is.

anyway, that's all.

Wow. Should he really be the guy helming this picture, with an attitude like that? A self-confessed Star Wars fan who thinks Trek is silly?

We would have roasted B&B alive for making comments like that when ENT was in production. But for whatever reason, J.J gets a free pass. Weird.

What the hell are you talking about? Every time I come to this forum, I see people ripping JJ Abrams apart when they haven't even seen the damn movie yet.

Abrams didn't mean that Star Trek was silly and ridiculous. He just meant the fans themselves are silly and ridiculous. Big difference. :)

There have been people on this site -- and there still are -- who have watched TV shows (past Enterprise, present Battlestar Galactica) they've hated from episode one to the finale with the sole purpose of hating every second of it so they can bitch and moan to everyone about how right they were to hate it. Knew more about the shows than the biggest fans. Self-fulfilling prophecy.

This is just par for the course.

People make judgments all the time. That's human nature. People judge things based on what they see no matter how much or how little. That's also human nature. People decide whether or not they want to see a movie from previews or pictures alone. They've been doing that for 100 years. This is no different and it's unfair to treat it as if it is.

I think it's interesting: Look forward to the movie less than 100%, be even remotely critical, and you must be silly and ridiculous. Look forward to the movie at all, and you must worship the ground JJ Abrams walks in. It must be great for people to think in such binary terms. Makes it so much easier doesn't it?

This is just like the ENT forum of old without shipping and less warnings. Too bad. Nothing's changed. It's exactly the same as 2001. It's nice to know that at least in the real world people decided yesterday they don't want to live as if it were eight years ago anymore.

You'll find that most of the people in this forum, like myself, have taken a middle of the road stance. We're just not really vocal about it, unlike those who "worship" JJ and those that want to "lynch" him. ;)

For the most part I have liked a lot of what I've seen. Some things I think are dumb. Like the zero in front of the Kelvin's registry, the uber bright bridge, and the hostess podium on the bridge, for instance. But they're not deal breakers for me and those kinds of changes don't upset me to the point where I'm screaming bloody murder at JJ.

This forum has fewer warnings then the ENT forum for a reason. Because it's not ENT. Some people can get a little hot under the collar here, but for the most part they settle down after a few posts. If everybody agreed it would be a pretty boring place.

Being a mod in here is not easy. None of us want to stifle discussion. Which is another reason why there haven't been all that many warnings. But it also can't be allowed to be a free for all. Forums where there is nothing but bitching, trolling, flaming, etc going back and forth between a certain few people are lame. It's not a fun atmosphere for regular folks, and the topics tend to get drowned out in all of the posturing between opponents.

My two cents...
