Shake Up With Heroes - Loeb OUT!

Loeb, didnt he write a Wolverine story where its discovered all the feral looking mutants are related to each other? :shifty:

on the other hand, I actually like Peter being depowered.

Does this mean there will be a conclusion to Ultimate Hulk vs. Wolverine now?

Well, since Loeb has nothing to do with that particular book (which is written by Damon Lindelof of Lost), these developments probably have no bearing on its completion.

...and Lindelof has actually handed in the script to the final issue to his editor (live on-stage at a con panel no less). i believe they're now waiting on the artist beig free again...

I've only watched occasionally recently, and have still sort of enjoyed it. But it does seem to drag on and on sometimes.

I'm not surprised. I've been very displeased with this season myself, even moreso than with season 2. When they pen brother shooting brother for shock value, then don't bother to write any scenes of them actually dealing with it--you know that somebody somewhere doesn't get it. They decided to go for action, all action, and nothing but action. Go to a bad future. Again. Try to avoid bad future. Again. Claire is annoying and acting bratty with her dad. Again.

Peter losing his powers is the only thing they've done right, but I have no doubt that'll be remedied.

The emphasis on "the demo" (18-49 is usually meant) has to do with sales to advertisers. Despite Heroes' good demographics, if advertisers have a prejudice that Heroes' fans were geeks in their parents' basements, there won't be as much revenue as otherwise expected. If the show isn't exciting enough for people to watch the commercials on first broadcast, revenue will be down for that reason too. Coupled with the public revelation that not only is Heroes pricy, but it's going overbudget, the question is whether the show is headed for the last chapter. This seems to be pretty much an ultimatum.

Loeb wrote Commando? all is starting to make sense......

Yes, and it was produced by Joel Silver making it his first of four Matrix movies.

I had an idea a few years back that you could have a sequel to Commando that focused on his daughter, "Jenny" played by Alyssa Milano, who grew up being trained by her father (as shown in the opening credits) and takes on the Matrix tradition of kicking ass and leaving only bodies behind. Loeb has some free time now...

That was a "D'oh!" moment. It's been so long since the last one that I could have sworn it was Loeb who wrote it. My bad.

Well, I don't really enjoy what they've done to Mohinder, since I liked him as a nice guy, but it can't really be called out of character, since he's being affected by the mutation. As for Nathan, his religious conversion is just another version of the jerk he was in Season One.

And I see the repeated journeys into Apocalyptic Futures as part of the show's theme: No matter what they do, everything always ends in disaster. How can they ultimately stop these powers from destroying the world?

Now that Peter has lost his powers, now's the time to get rid of the time travel garbage. Off Papa Petrelli at the end of this arc, then either kill Hiro or figure out another way to get rid of him. I like Ando more than Hiro, anyway.

Whoever is responsble for what they've done to Peter should be fired, sure.

Taking away his powers was the smartest thing those clowns have done all year! :rommie:

Whoever is responsible for Mohinder the Moron must be fired, though.

But I still don't know what "creative direction" the suits want for the show. It would be nice for the pace to be slowed down so the characters can interact with each other and explain themselves better via well written dialogue; and a lot more attention needs to be paid to plot and character logic.

But since when are shows punished in the ratings for being fast-paced but stupid thrill rides? I always thought the opposite was the case.

And the show content isn't responsible for the fact that 3M of the 11M viewers watch the show on TiVO, where the advertisers won't pay up; maybe indirectly, since Heroes attracts the younger-skewing crowd that TiVOs everything. Isn't grabbing a young demo a "good thing"? The fact that young viewers tend to TiVO shows isn't something the Heroes producers can solve.

I wonder if them blowing the budget isn't the real reason they got booted (both the producers). NBC is probably looking for ways to tighten the budget, which they can do by stopping their mania to hire new actors each season.

The crazy thing is, they've got the best budget-stretching formula they could hope for, a lot of great characters who the fans want to see interacting. Put two of them on screen, point a camera at them, write some good dialogue for them, and that's what we want! And you can't get cheaper than that. Having half a billion characters with individual plotlines requiring sets and location shooting is what drives up the costs. Lose some of the characters (starting with Hiro, Ando and Nikki) and there's more cost-savings.

They will always have to throw in those pricey SFX superpower battles, but this season has taught us a new Peter Principle: overusing superpowers just makes people bored of them.

Ando, the sidekick character, needs someone to play off of. Getting rid of Hiro would make both characters suffer in my opinion.

I actually bailed out a few episodes into season 2.

I guess I did not miss much after all. :borg:

Me too. The only reason I started watching is because my ex-girlfriend was into it. I bailed out as soon as I could.

There were some really good episodes of this show early on. It's a shame it's become so stale. I've tried to watch an episode every now and then and have been bored.

What happened to Mohinder and Matt's "daughter"? Haven't seen her around in a while.....

I agree with that, but he doesn't need to play off of Hiro.

They mentioned her in the first episode of the season. They did not say where they sent her but Maya asked Mohinder how it went with Molly and he said that the flight attendant would look after her until she got to where she was going. All that was said was that she was safe and no one would think to look for her where they sent her. She was last seen in Matt's future vision where she referred to Daphne as "Mom".

I don't watch Heroes anymore but I've always liked Jeph Loeb and I'm sad to here he was fired. Maybe he was too good for the show. :p
