David Tennant leaves DW after the specials

Who would have thought that 4 years ago, I didn't think of any Doctor Who without Chris Eccleston. He was my doctor, and he got me into this great world that is Doctor Who. I haven't watched any of the old series, but these adventures were great week after week and I was sad that Ecc was leaving. Would I like the new doctor? Would I get used to it. It was my first time experiencing a regeneration and it was such a sad moment, but a great moment to this series.

Today, I'm feeling a little of that sadness again that David Tennant is leaving. It took some time to get used to him, but man when I did, he was absolutely awesome. He really came into his own in Season 3, and Season 4 was brillient with him and the chemistry he had with Tate. I'm going to miss his work, but have the 4 specials and the Christmas episode to look forward to.

To Days To come
All My Love to Long Ago

Indeed. :(

Looks like I may be the only person here who's perfectly okay with this news. Maybe I'll stick with New Who after all. :bolian:

^ No, I'm perfectly okay with it, too. He's been great. Really great. I've enjoyed his Doctor and his companions and his adventures, but I'm happy to see him move on. I just hope I like the new Doctor. There have been times when I haven't, and I don't like it, damn it!

As an aside, I really felt for Tennant making that announcement and receiving that award when he did. The interval for Hamlet falls at a real moment of tension for the actors. OTOH, it was great to see the Hamlet costumes and the guards again. :) He said he had to go back on stage and kill Patrick Stewart, but he couldn't manage it. Wimp... ;)

Count me in too.

While I liked Tennant as the Doctor, I was over his machine gun style delivery and frantic mannerisms by series three. There were times when I plain could not understand things he said because he was shouting and speaking too fast.

I know the stupid BBC will not cast a radically too old Doctor but let's hope the new actor(tress)speaks so you can at least understand them!!!

(That means NO BLOODY SCOTCH ACTORS!!!!!!!! )

;)

I think David was fantastic he's reinvigorated the show, and whoever replaces him will have some pretty big trainers to fill. I'm glad he's going out on a high, and at his own choosing.

I'm sad, but keen to see what happens next.

The four/five specials over 2009 will rock, IMO.

What's a "Scotch Actor"? Do you mean an actor who drinks lots of Scotch?

And I think it's your ears at fault rather than Tennnant's delivery as I never had a problem understanding him.

I was surprised at the time, but not at the decision. I think he's smart enough to know that he could stay in the role too long. Plus this way Moffat has a clean slate (although I'd like to see Tennant have at least one adventure with the 11th Doc's companion)

I'm a little sad, but in all honesty think that three seasons is an acceptable tenure for the Doctor ( 3 and a half really) and I think the longer he left it the harder it was going to be for the 11th Doctor. This way the 11th Doc does have the boost of there having been no series in 2009 so people should be chomping at the bit even more than usual over the new series in 2010.

Don't know why people are getting flustered over the regeneration limit. If each Doctor does 3 years it'll be about 2018 before we need to worry!

Interesting that even the BBC news last night was speculating, with online bookies listing Nesbitt, Morrissey and Patterson Joseph. Personally my choice of those three would be Joseph, but it wouldn't surprise me if its a relative unknown (then again you could say he is a relative unknown)

Am I alone in being more excited than upset?

Does, IMO, make the faux regeneration in Journey's End even more ludicrous.

Plus he's only used his natural Scottish accent the once. Shame I thought it sounded better.

I'm very sad by this news (Tennant was magnificent) but it is kind of what I thought would happen.

Personally I hope the next doctor is the "next doctor" of the Christmas special. Whether it be Morissey or a younger version of him.

You know, there would always be a way he could come back no matter which regeneration the Doctor is at...

...the human Doctor on Pete's world living with Rose. He could come back with Billie Piper like 10, 15, 25 years from now with equal time passing for them. He'd probably would have built a TARDIS of his own, being left there. Could take a while to do it. Finishing it would be a good reason to start a new series with them, a spin-off series.

I'm wondering if they've pulled a triple bluff, and David Morrissey is the next Doctor.

I dunno though, I think I'd prefer, well, Morrissey. Jarvis Cocker anyone?

Either way, I'll be sad to see Tennant go, but I'm even more excited about 2010 now!
