David Tennant leaves DW after the specials

Nooooooooooo!

Ah, well. Let the fan-casting begin!
:guffaw:because there had been no discussion about who should be the 11 Doctor until now?

ok Russel Brand, if he takes over as the Doctor, I stop watching, I refuse to watch any TV show, movie, or listen to any radio show which he presents or features on (I am one of those who doesnt think he should have been hired for Radio 2 in the first place)

moving on to David, well we always knew this was an option, I am sad about this I always though he would do the 5th season, but the crew have known for so long now, that I guess this was always going to be the case.

Damn, that sucks as I really liked Tennant's stint as the Doctor. So we're going to get a new Doctor and a new companion? At least no one will be complaining about a deus ex machina from Moffat when the new series starts. Oh who am I kidding, yes they will!

My vote's for John Simm. Despite having been the Master, he'd be a fantastic Doctor. I'm sure Moffat and company can come up with a perfectly acceptable explanation on why this new Doctor looks so much like the Master. :)

This sucks. :( But best of luck with his future. Will be interesting to see where he pops up next. I need to find the footage for it.

Well one hand I'm sorry to see him leave, but on the other I'm glad we know for sure that he's not coming back after the specials.

Noooooooooo! :(

Oh well, I can't blame him. He had a fantastic run, and I'll probably always view him as "my" Doctor (since I didn't really start watching until his first season). Good luck to him in the future, and to the next person to take on the role.

What sad news, I was hoping he would be back for at least part of the fifth series.

He'll always be my Doctor. I doubt anyone will ever be able to top him.

I'd bet that RTD and Moffatt will collaborate on the final special, introducing the new companion and regenerating the Doctor at the end. (Or maybe bringing back an old companion for a bit.)

Sad to hear, but at least we'll be getting some specials before he goes. I loved Tennant. :(

He did announce it live on TV and then run off to kill the king of Belgium though. I love that man.

"I've got to go back on stage now. I've got to kill Patrick Stewart, look!" *flips open switchblade*

Aww. I was hoping he'd stay long enough to beat Tom Baker's record! Oh well.

True, he won't beat Tom Baker's episode record, but then there are always several episodes per one story in the classic series. If you are merely counting story titles, though, Tennant flew past Baker at the end of Series 4. Tom Baker has 41 story titles under his belt. The Series 4 finale, Journey's End, was number 42 for Tennant (not including Children in Need specials). Yes, this counts two-parters as two story titles even though it's technically one story, but still... ;)

Maybe he just finally got sick of peole asking "So when are you leaving?" :)

Boy. New Producer, new Doctor, new companion. Anything could happen! Its strange. I've been around for most of the Doctors, and this is probably the only one I'll likely cry like a baby over when he 'dies'. I've really enjoyed his era. But hey, a new Doctor is always a time of excitement too. So lets do it!

Having him change during the specials is a bit worrisome though. I hope they do a proper regeneration scene.

Sad news, but not really unexpected. DT makes a great Doctor, and I'll miss him on the show :(

Best of luck to him in whatever comes his way.

I'm rather disappointed that not only does Moffat not get to have a season with Tennant, but the specials are being written by people like Davies and Gareth Roberts (right?).

The Tenth Doctor deserved, nay, demanded a season of not being written by a self-indulgent Welsh doofus who thought the greatest thing ever was the Doctor running around shrieking, "HYOOOMANS!

Best. Idea. Ever. John Simm was The Best. The Master. Ever. And he could quite possibly be The Best. Doctor. Ever.

I'll admit, Tennant grew on me after awhile. I liked the angry badassness of the 9th, but eventually the 10th and his nerd boy charm won me over. This sucks, but I figured it was a big possibility. Especially after that EPIC WIN series 4 finale. This is sad, but not unexpected. It's always good to go out on a high note.

I'm getting tired of people leaving after only a few years. You grow to like somebody and they leave you.

That being said, I would like a more serious doctor this time, something more along the lines of Pertwee (as per my current avatar) who was always my favorite doctor up until Tennant. And then Baker would have to hold a distant third place in my heart. I liked him fine, but he never moved me the way he did some people.

They should get an American to play the next Doctor so they can get someone who'll stick around for a few years.

All this said, I kind of hate Eccleston for leaving after one year, claiming he was afraid of being typcast ... and then he goes and does a terrible show like Heroes, and follows it up with G. I. Joe. :p

Eccleston made no such claim and there's still no official reason for his departure from the series.
