Nope. I'm a Sela lover, and proud of it!! Personally, I think Denise Crosby looks better as a Romulan anyway. ;)

Sadly, judging by the negative reactions of the writers here, it doesn't look like we'll be seeing much of her anytime soon...

(Goes back to note book entry, studies for a REALLY long time, and nods to self.)

Okay...I'll see what I can do.

However...considering circumstances, such as my being in college (not to mention the GUIDELINES...), it'll probably be a while....

But I promise, it will be worth the wait.

(Heck, it might even cause the haters to like her...or at least, gain a new interest in her.)

At any rate, by the time I'm through, few, if any, will be able to look at Sela the same way again.

Count on that, mate.;)

No, please explain.

In detail.

Hee, hee, hee....

Okay...it's like this....

--wait. There are probably some viewers here, who are...:shifty:...sensitive...shall we say?

Ah...suffice it to say...Sela was the...proposer. And...Tom doesn't disapoint her.

And, BTW, while they..."y'know"...Tom basicaly muses, If my double could see me now! Although...if I'm having one gal...he's probably got...three....

"Hubris" is just a concept in your household, isn't it Rush...

:lol:Maybe... but we'll let the facts speack for themselves.

After all, I have Talent...On Loan...From...The Bird....

Okay, let me get serious for a minute....

Frankly, the inspiration came from all the accusations that Sela was always portrayed as 1-D. That, and all the whining about, "Hey, why didn't they use Sela in Nemesis? They had a perfectly good villian to use already...."

So I thought to myself, "Hmm...in order to use her, I must give her something to make readers want to pick this story up, and not think to themselve, 'Meh, just another Sela story....' Now what would make her complex...?"

A careful re-viewing of her scenes showed something I didn't see in her before. Read my earlier post on her emotional conflicts, and see what I mean.

And of course, I came up with a good high-concept (as it were) plot turn that, when I first thought of it, SHOCKED me!

But...that's something best saved for later....:)

In all seriousness Rush, have you ever actually completed any of the stories you've talked about? Spinning concepts and outlines is a helluva lot easier than mustering the discipline to write and finish what you start. How about putting a sample up on the Fan Fiction board and let us take a look?

If you do, don't be afraid...I'd love to read it. I'm not an excessively harsh critic--I promise I'll find strengths AND weaknesses. :)

Yes, I have. They're all short stories, all written with the intent of submitting them to SNW. Sadly, that was not to be....:(

Unfortunately, the guidelines kinda forbid "previously punished fan-fic" from getting published. And I intend to have them published...eventually.

Of course...I seem to recall Dean Wesley Smith eventually got an old fan-fic published in SNW I, in the "Because We Can" section...but of course, he was the editor.

Hmm...now that I think of it, I just might put one on. And maybe someday...I'll get'em published in an anthology...or a "Because I Can" section of my own....

Okay! I've written a DS9 tale (First Season; O'Brien-Centric, my first Trek story EVER); an Excelsior tale (Shortly before ST:TUC, centering on Sulu, Rand, and Tuvok); a TOS tale (First Season, just after "The Enemy Within", centering on Rand. Frankly, I think it's in need of re-writing.); and a Post-NEM TNG tale (centering on Geordi, Leah Brahms, and B-4).

Which one would y'all like to see first?

[Now what would make her complex...?"

Being the daughter of a dead bridge crew member who died years before she ever popped up out of some parallel/alternative universe but is now back in ours and despite all of that having no particularly interesting traits or even a shred of personality isn't complex enough?

Sela is a bit-part henchman at best.

Sela, to me, was always a wonderful rich character with so much to work with. However, she was used as a Snidely Whiplash villain, always scheming and failing and coming back for more with little done to explore her character and motivations. I address this in a piece coming in a future issue of Star Trek Magazine.

Sort of the Wile E. Coyote of the Trek universe? ;)

In my fanfic version of the TNG relaunch she's got a lot more depth and is most definitely not a 1D villain. She's a major player in post-NEM Romulan politics.

In fact the one that went on sale this week...

In the US, I've got to wait another month :(

Exactly.

Hey, Bob... I haven't seen that much from you, lately. Anything on the agenda for ya?

Fascinating! Hey, Xeris...where might I find this fan-fic o' yours?

You don't! In the US, it's out - it's the Brit readers who won't see it till about 12 November. (Cue the usual queries about this!)

Sela has never been a very three dimensional character but she has an interesting background and potential. I hope there will be another story with her, also because there are not many female villains around.

But I am much more interested in reading about Tom Riker. I like him and I think he could add a lot to the Star Trek book universe.
