Darth Maul question?

Re. DrunkenHobo and SkyHaunter:

I don't quite understand what you mean. Do you mean they were meant to foreshadow individual parts of Vader's character? Or is it more literal than that?
Darth Maul was pure violence and anger. He was a pit bull, a vicious and terrifying presence who was incredibly skilled in the offensive use of the Force. He represents Darth Vader as a pure, malevolent force of destruction.

Count Dooku was older and far more savvy than Maul. He, too, was a capable fighter, but his technique was more elegant and precise. He had a stronger connection to the Force than Maul. He represents Darth Vader's wisdom, power, and mastery of the dark side of the Force. It's also interesting to note that the cape Dooku wore matched Vader's in style (including the chain linking it around his neck).

General Grievous was a fearsome and legendary military commander. He was once a purely organic being who was severely injured in battle, and most of his original body was replaced with the technological chassis we're familiar with. He represents Vader's military genius and fearsome command presence, and his becoming more machine than man.

Darth Maul... wasn't he that henchman with the red face? Did he even have any dialogue?

"Yes, my Master"

That's about all.
"Tatooine is sparsely populated. If the trace was correct, I will find them quickly, Master."
"At last we will reveal ourselves to the Jedi. At last we will have revenge."
"Yes, my Master."

Darth Maul only had five lines in the full screenplay. Two of them did not make it into the final cut of the film. It seems he was always intended to be more of a force than a personality.

A force? He was a spear carrier. How is he even considered a character in this movie, let alone one warranting the sort of speculation evidenced in this thread?

Could Darth Maul have lead the separatist during the clone wars? While I enjoyed him in TPM, he was like a pit bull tied up, I don't think he had what it takes to lead a government.

I agree. To lead the separatists, he would have needed the ability to say more than a few sentences.

Maul was also very young IIRC. Maybe if he was older, he might have been able to lead the Separatists and I think that is what scared Palpatine.

The voice actor for Maul's speaking part didn't sound like a constipated Rambo with brain damage. He just wasn't given a chance. Imagine if Obi wan's entire part was the light saber fight at the end of Phantom. He probably wouldn't seem all that great.

Yep, exactly, I'd add that Maul was a blunt weapon while Dooku was a scalpel, surgical and precise. Dooku also represents Vader's "code of honor" if you will. The way they both went for cutting off their opponent's saber hand. And the was they acted accordingly.

Not only that, but I'm pretty sure Ray Park being a stuntman and not an actor until that point may have something to do with things.

I personally think the first 2 movies would have benefitted from having Count dooku in the first one along with Darth Maul. He could have been a third Sith and died at the end of the first movei as both Sideious and Dooku surrendered Maul as a weapon allowing him to take on Qui Gon and Obi-Wan as happened. To just have Dooku show up in the 2nd movie was a mistake.
Most people would probably say well just get rid of Maul in the 1st and replace him with Dooku. But I think it would have been much better if Dooku was added to the 1st movie and then continued on like he did in the 2nd movie...

If Ray Park had genuine acting chops, I would have preferred that Darth Maul fill the role of both TPM bad arse and AOTC nasty guy.

Maul came across as rather well spoken in the "One Truth" trailer they made.

"Fear... Fear attracts the fearful... the strong... the weak... the innocent... the corrupt. Fear. Fear is my ally."
