One positive, one negative thing about... Michael Bay movies.

Just as the title says -- find something positive to say about the movie, and then find something negative to say about the same movie.

Positive: Transformers (2007)

Negative: Most of his films are dumb, loud, noisy, mindless popcorn big blockbuster action films with little plot, character development, or substance.

Bad Boys
Positive: Its a farce welded to an action movie, and actually works pretty well.
Negative: The action part is pretty uninspiring.

The Rock
Positive: Probably the best film Michael Bay has ever made - a good, old-fashioned action flick.
Negative: There's nothing original about it and I kind of hate Nicholas Cage.

Armageddon
Positive: The cast do their best to wring emotion from the situation - I like the "Leaving on a Jet-Plane scene"
Negative: The deplorable failure of any of the science or space travel to make any kind of sense

Pearl Harbour
Positive: The special effects of the titular battle.
Negative: The Doolittle Raid feels tacked on in order to give American audiences a chance to cheer a film that's supposed to be about a disaster.

Bad Boys II (I haven't seen it)

The Island
Positive: A good science fiction idea which the cast do well with.
Negative: Didn't really need to be an action film, not a Bay-style one anyway.

Transformers
Positive: Brilliant special effects bring my favourite robots to life.
Negative: Too many fleshlings!

The Rock:
Positive: The whole movie, really. It was a great action film. No negatives that spring out.

Pearl Harbor:
Positive: The battle, of course.
Negative: Rest of the film. A real snoozer.

The Island:
Positives: Scarlett Johansson, Scarlett's body and Ewan MacGregor.
Negative: It was kind of silly and not all that engrossing. I was bored.

Transformers:
Positives: Good special effects.
Negatives: Everything else. I really disliked this film. From the characters to the plot to the dialogue.

Bad Boys
good: most of it.
negative: martin lawrence is kinda annoying

The Rock
good: most of it
bad: um...not a lot

Armageddon
good: special fx, liv tyler, buscemi
bad: over-blown nonsense

Bad Boys 2
good: most of it
bad: all that stupid woo-sa business

The Island
good: a lot
bad: under-rated

Transformers
good: nearly everything
bad: devastator's name being wrong, not enough Starscream

Armageddon:
Good - when watched as a comedy, it's a pretty good one. Also, the cast is great.
Bad - The science doesn't make any sense even for the first-graders.

Transformers:
Good - special effects. Giant fighting robots are cool.
Bad - everything else.

Bad Boys
Positive: Its one of the quintessential 90s action movies, and not much sense.
Negative: It's not original in any way.

The Rock
Positive: Great trough and trough action and a pretty damned decent car chase.
Negative: Not enough John C. McGinley!

Armageddon
Positive: Thoroughly enjoyable and utterly attentiongrabbing.
Negative: Doesn't make a whole lot of sense at all!

Pearl Harbour
Positive: Pretty solid latter half, great battles, fantastic cinematography.
Negative: The insipid romance. It's one of the movies made when Kate Beckinsale was still hot and didn't feel so fake, but I still can't like the romance in it. I actually feel sorry for Josh Hartnett in this who is actually solid actor otherwise. And what did the Cuba Gooding Jr. storyline had to do with anything?

Bad Boys II
Positive:Fantastically enjoyable over the top action setpieces
Negative: The utter disrespect for human decency. Grabbing a dead womans tits and flingind corpses out of a car is not funny.

The Island
Positive: Very restrained by Bay's standards for the fisrt 50 minutes or so and quite simply his best movie yet. Gorgeous cinematography.
Negative: That Scarlett Johanssen's nude scenes was nixed by the studio since they wanted it PG-13.

Transformers
Positive: The most fun I had in a movie theater since Jurrasic Park, and most definetly my favorite of Bay's movies. Converted my back to being a gearhead once again since I fell in love with the new Camaro in this movie.
Negative: Not enough Starscream!

The Island

Good: Probably one of the better Sci-Fi remakes I've seen (NOTE: I didn't see the original version. However, I did like this movie.)

Bad: Scarlett Johansson did not show her Sweater Puppets. That is a crime.

Transformers

Good: Cool cars, especially Camaro. Great action sequences and real nice CGI.

Bad: We didn't see enough of the Camaro and Megan Fox did not show her Sweater Puppets. That is also a crime. (Here's to hoping for at least a Bikini Shot in the sequel.)

Overall:
Positive: They're usualy a visual and action-packed delight.

Negative: Usually they've all the depth of a puddle in the Sahrah and written about as well as a Dr. Seuss book translated into Hebrew.

The one exception: The Rock. One of my most favorite action movies. I suspect Don Simpson played a large role in that.

Individual:

Bad Boys
Never saw it.

The Rock
Good: Sean Connery.
Bad: Shaky-cam cinematography.

Armageddon
Good: Pretty well done action.
Bad: Science/physics logic.

Pearl Harbor
Good: The attack on Pearl and Doolittle Raid.
Bad: The love story. :dry heave:

Bad Boys 2
Never saw it.

The Island
Good: Surprisingly good story and themes.
Bad: Plagerism.

Transformers
Good: Special effects are well done.
Bad: Just about everything else in the whole damn movie.

Bad Boys
Pos: Overall, pretty good stuff
Neg: Martin Lawrence

The Rock
Pos: Can't really think of much bad about it. It's a good action flick.

Armageddon:
Pos: Great fun
Neg: Until you realise it doesn't make a lick of sense

Pearl Harbor:
Pos: Beckinsale is nice to look at, Jon Voight isn't bad as FDR, the FX in the battle scene is OK
Neg: Utterly cliche-ridden, hackneyed, jingoistic tripe for the most part

Bad Boys II
Haven't seen it

The Island
Pos: Pretty good overall, underrated, Johansson is hot
Neg: Unneccesary action scenes

Transformers
Haven't seen it

I'll just repeat what I've said about Michael Bay in the past.

The good: Michael Bay is a talented director.
The bad: Michael Bay uses his talents for evil instead of good.

The good: Michael Bay is very good at what he does.
The bad: Adolf Eichmann was also very good at what he did. Being good at what you do is not necessarily a good thing.

The good: Michael Bay can polish a turd until it gleams like gold.
The bad: A polished turd is still a turd.

The Rock
Positive: Good cast, solid action film.
Negative: The bad guy was not really bad - therefore there was not too much suspense over whether he would follow through with his threat.

Bad Boys II - have not seen it but it deserves some good feedback since it was so lovingly referenced in 'Hot Fuzz'.

The Island
Positive: Decent film with a good cast.
Negative: Bay proved to be an asshat by publicly blaming his lead actors for the film's box office 'failure'. Also, the plot seems to be lifted directly from one of the books to the 'Starchild Trilogy' written by by Frederik Pohl and Jack Williamson. There was a whole bit about the main guy being sent to Cuba as an organ donar, living in this artificial society as a prisoner. Does the film even credit these writers?

Transformers
Positive: Well done film overall with an excellent rendition of the transformers..
Negative: The film had some things that made no sense. Storing a potentially dangerous alien entity under the Hoover Dam is just one of them.

Awww :( I have to do each one?

No matter I'll do it about the generality of his films:

Good: It pretty much ended Ben Afflick's career as an A-list actor
Bad: He disregards source materials, including actual history for the sake of his films

Good: His first movie was fun and entertaining
Bad: He HAD to make a sequel

Good: They are mindless popcorn flicks that bankroll the movie industry, thus helping to produce more artistic films
Bad: The people watching them are the ones deciding our next president

The Island was almost a direct and complete ripoff of "Parts: The Clonus Horror." A movie made in the 70s about a man living in an idyllic society who dreams of being choosen to "go to America" a promised paradise. He eventually escapes and discovers he is a clone bred for organ harvesting -a system set up by power-hungry politicians.

Honestly, the similarities are very, very, VERY strong. Clonus is a bad movie and poorly made. So poorly made the only way I, and many others, know about it is from MST3K. But the similarities to The Island are so strong that the producers and writers for "Parts" actually settled with Dreramworks in a Copyright Infringement lawsuit against Michael Bay and The Island.
