OMG first shot of the new bridge!!!

I'm more concerned about how the crew looks than the bridge, and they look fine to me... the bridge does seems a tad bright but it's not beyond what I was expecting for a "semi-reboot" design.

..and if folks like CRA are not going to go see it because they don't like the bridge, that's up to them. No offense CRA, but you weren't JJ's target audience anyhow. [you'll probably take that as the highest praise imaginable! :p ] Personally I'm more concerned about what the exterior of the ship looks like than the interior...

That will cause quite the thunder storm around these parts here I think ;)

That my friends is what we call a "reboot".

Still not buying it. Costume and set changes don't constitute a reboot.

It's part of a reboot.

Not any part that matters.

Look, the key here is Leonard Nimoy. If you bring back part of the original cast to play the character he originated - whether it's a voice-over or not - then you're not rebooting jack. You're trying to fit a prequel into existing canon.

The look of this bridge is meaningless in terms of rebooting. I actually think it's pretty, but meaningless. They'll find a way to explain it that won't violate canon.

Riiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiight.

And monkeys might fly out of my butt.

They might. I'd go see a proctologist before the release date and have him check up there for simians.

Because...so far we haven't seen them make any changes that can't be easily explained within canon, and until we do see that, it ain't a freakin' reboot. It just ain't.

Easily?

Are you high?

Sigh.

TNG-era ships are said to have modular bridges that can be swapped out and replaced whole. If the same can be said for TOS era ships, then if what we're seeing is Big-E's bridge, it might be a module installed after Pike's time in the ship, one that might be destroyed by the end of the movie, in which case it could be replaced by the bridge we're all familiar with.

I repeat: EASILY. I have an adolescent nephew who would find just as little problem finding an explanation.

Some soberer thoughts after more time to think about it:

A pre-release publicity photo should make me feel excited about what I will eventually see. What I see here makes me say, "Well, I really don't know, and I will continue my hopeful wait and see position." Since that sounds less than exciting, it leaves me making an effort to remain positive or at least neutral.

I will continue to make the effort. Right up to the closing credits.

Caveat: My approach is that Bad Trek is better than No Trek, so it SHOULDN'T take much to make me happy. Well, maybe Nemesis excepted. And maybe Insurrection.

I think the plexiglass circuit board things were inspired by similar set ups in TNG's Parallels and (IIRC) All Good Things alternate/future Entrerprises, but they look out of place here. I wouldn't be surprised if they shattered if the Enterprise takes some hits, like the retarded glass revolving doors on the nBSG Pegasus.

What's really interesting is the fact that you can Photoshop an Asgard into the background without drawing too much attention

For those who want the upcoming movie to be part of the existing Trek continuity, a little creativity will solve most inconsistencies. The Klingons, Romulans, Trill, Worf's forehead, and various other Trek objects, species and characters have changed looks over time, largely without explanation, and fans often rise to the challenge.

For those who think of the upcoming movie as the start of a new continuity, enjoy the show.

As for me, I don't want the movie to be anything more than entertaining, and hopefully a little thought-provoking. Old continuity / new continuity issues be damned.

Well, lessee....here's the original bridge....

And here's the new and, allegedly, improved one...

Oh, yeah, they're virtually identical.

What flavor Kool-Aid is JJ serving these days?

Raspberry chocolate.

What, never heard of it?

Perhaps you remember it by its old name, "Amoebic Dysentary."

Now, now, you're bringing simple logic into this. The traditionalists are gonna poop their shorts.

But I agree. I want a story that has the characters that I remember as a child in a new adventure that's entertaining and, hopefully, a little enlightening. To hell with the "canon" and "original look."

I doubt very highly that this is a still from the movie. To me, it looks like a photographer took this. Looks like they took a picture while they were blocking the action. Believe me, I have no love of this bridge from this picture. However I'm not a TOS purist and thats not my issue, to me it looks to overworked. That station in the back reminds me of the pop up manual stick from Insurrection, I just don't get it. Still wont deter me from seeing it.

^Except for the fact that it's not a "still picture" but a frame from the movie.

Wait ... do we know this? A lot of films have still photographers on hand for publicity purposes and to document production.

Actually, we don't. We know that it's a scene from the film, but it's not necessarily a frame from the shoot.

The only think which suggests that it may be, is Spock in motion in the foreground. The other characters look pretty carefully posed.

Spock isn't in motion, he's just out of focus because he's closer to the camera than everyone else. He's blurry, but it's not motion blur.
