Star Trek covers EW

How is a Trek purist supposed to like that bridge design?
I am, and I do. The Bridge module swaps out. This particular one is not the one they used later in the ship's life. So what? Its futuristic, and looks like an advanced control center. This takes place more than 300 years in the future. Exactly what aspects of the 60's set would you have liked them to keep?

No, they have not.
They been trying to tip toe around issue ever since they started this thing.
They refuse to say it is a reboot.
''Every studio in town is searching for these kinds of franchises, so it was important for us to reboot,'' says Brad Weston, Paramount's president of production. ''But we needed a clean, fresh take on this thing."

That's from the most rescent EW article. Orci also used the word "reboot" a while back to describe the new look.

So stop lying.

Also, Who the hell cares? The movie will speak for itself through the promotion and trailers. There is no issue.

Everything.
That's what a purist expects.

That's what an idiot, out of touch with reality would expect in 2008...
Last thing Trek needs is reasons to be laughed at by everyone by sticking to obsolete, low-budget 60's designs.

Care to show me a quote where he does say it?

You can't have possibly missed it if you were keeping up with TrekToday, go back and look for titles mentioning Orci. I'm not going to do all your reading for you.

No.
Everything I've read Orci say has said that they would be mindful of canon and all that crap. Not once have I ever seen a quote attributed to him uuse the word reboot.
Where does he say it?

Well, he's not much of a purist, then is he? If he thinks the sets are so great.

The plywood consoles and arrays of gumdrop buttons without labels! :guffaw:

Jezzus! I come here to have a nice, calm discussion with fellow geeks and all I am seeing is Gorn Style cage fighting!

As a long time Star Trek fan that grew tired of all things Trek once Enterprise was cancelled, the new pics have me excited. Sure, bridge looks different, but its too early to freak out

Crew looks good. Question: is that Quint's hair or is that a wig? In the set pic, hair looked good; in EW cover, it looks like a wig....

Rumor has it that Pine wears a hairpiece!

Quinto has said that he grew his hair out and dyed it for the role, so I imagine it's his. And thank heaven for that. I'm tired of the obvious wigs they've put on guest Vulcans over the years. They look an inch thick! That's 2.54cm for those so inclined. :D

Why can't the movie-makers just come flat out and say it is or isn't a reboot?
Maybe they're doing something more interesting than just a reboot/non-reboot: adhering to the soul of TOS while not sweating the details.

The look of the bridge is a case in point: they had the design challenge of re-creating the vivid, colorful, fun look of TOS, but without having anything that would look like it was time-warped in from the 60s. Solution? The bright-blue high-tech look which isn't like anything we've seen from sci fi lately (which has been dominated by the dark/goth look); is lively, positive and fun; and looks like our future, not our past.

If they take that approach throughtout the film, they will be doing just fine.

Ooh, I like. I think I just found my new avatar.

Argh! I find those creepy airbrushed EW pix to be extremely off-putting. I appreciate the fact that the makeup is accurate to Spock's greenish complexion and the Sylar-brows had to go (darnit) but Quinto is a stubbly guy, no doubt about it, and so is Nimoy btw. They shouldn't have airbrushed him so severely. At least they can't airbrush him in the frakkin' movie, haw!

He has said both, and they are not mutually exclusive. Try to find it yourself, I'm not doing you any more favors, cap.
