Any Oasis fans on here? Just wondered what the TrekBBS fans views on the new album are?

I got it on Friday (the CD/DVD Special Edition) and have been listening to it a few times since... Yep, pretty good.
I think the first half is excellent, tracks 1-5 are all standouts, notably track 3 "Waiting For the Rapture". Just awesome.

The second half ain't bad at all, but just doesn't stand out as much yet. To be honest I would have preferred it to have a few more heavier rocking songs ala Shock of the Lightning. My favourite sort of Oasis songs are those with the likes of Bring It On Down, Rock 'n' Roll Star, D'You Know What I Mean?, etc

Although maybe I'll change my mind after a few more listens.

Thoughts?

Yes. A big one. I already have my tickets for their show when they come to Los Angeles in December.

Dig Out Your Soul, in my opinion, is the strongest Oasis CD in a decade. Waiting for the Rapture, I'm Outta Time, and The Shock of Lightning are all solid and replayable. The CD as a whole holds together well, and, unlike Heathen Chemistry or Don't Believe the Truth, it doesn't have serious drop offs in quality or odd shifts in style.

My rating: B

Actually Heathen Chemistry is my favourite Oasis album after Definitely Maybe. IMO its solid from start to finish, every song is a mighty tune. Some of the my favourite Oasis songs are on that record- Force of Nature, Better Man, Little by Little, Hindu Times, etc

I'm a big fan too, just not listened to the album yet (it's called being to lazy to look for something on Amazon to get free shipping).

Given that Rock Band is my only real reference... do they still sound like they do in Wonderwall and Don't Look Back in Anger?

They have moved on a bit since then, but Liam Gallagher's nasal voice is still as distinctive as ever ;)

I'm a huge fan and love this one from start to finish. A very strong effort from this great band!

Here's a question I kinda wondered, how popular/well known are Oasis in America anyway? I know they have a plenty of fans there when they tour and whatnot, but I always imagine their whole ethos just doesn't travel as well to your average "fookin yank" ;)

I kinda think of Wonderwall as the song for people who don't know anything about Oasis. Maybe just because it got so overplayed, but I hardly ever listen to it and personally it wouldn't even be in my Top 40 Oasis songs.
Now here's a good tune- Go Let it Out
And the likes of Acquiesce and Some Might Say

They peaked over here with Be Here Now, the last CD to have a song that got one second of air play. Even at their apex with Morning Glory, many Americans - who couldn't recognize the tongue in cheek nature of much of what came out of the Gallagher Brothers' mouths - had a really hard time separating the music from the antics and the Biggest Band in the World bit. Many were turned off and many never gave them a chance. Even so, I don't know of a single person alive who has seen them live and not been instantly sold on them.

Sorry, just reminds me of a Noel quote
"Americans just fundamentally do not get it. That is the one thing about Yanks, right? They. Do. Not. Get. It. Whatever it is, they don't fucking get it!"

;)

I have been to see them eight times and I will be getting tickets for Wembely Stadium. I like their older stuff best but the albums are always worth a listen. They are an important band who changend the face of Brittish music in the nineties picking up where The stone Roses left off.
I have the new album but I will have to give it a good listen before I decide if I love it.
I love the way they stur up music with their comments about other bands like the average Kaiser Chiefs and Coldplay who started off with some potential but are becoming more boring with each album. Don't get me started on Rodney Williams...
I don't agree with everything they say, I love Babyshambles for example, however they say what they think and do what they like and I like that.
Can't wait for June!

I'm something of an Oasis nut myself. I've found every album ever since their 3rd, to a mixed bag at the first listen. From Dig Out Your Soul, I love these ones instantly - I'm Outta Time, Soldier On, Shock of the Lightning, Falling Down (there's a Chemical Brothers remix on the CD single). A few of the others will probably grow on me the more I listen. Every Oasis album to date has more than it's fair share of great tracks. Liam's (dare I call them) ballads always get me on an emotional level... Don't Go Away from Be Here Now, Stop Cryin' Yer Heart Out from Heathen, all pretty underrated compared to those done by Noel.

Even so, I don't know of a single person alive who has seen them live and not been instantly sold on them.
Back in the 90's I can see that being very true. Over the past 10 years, I think they're live performances have been very hit and miss. You take pot luck whether Liam is in fine form or has left the auto pilot on. :p

I'm looking for seeing their Electric Proms set on the BBC. It's on over the next week, I believe.

Well last week I said I really liked the first half, and the second was ok. After listening to a lot since, I'd say now I love the first half, and really like the second :D

The first 5 tracks are awesome, really liking 7. Falling Down, 8. To Be Where There's Life, and 10. The Nature of Reality
6 and 9 feel a little bit filler though

Apologies for zombie-fying the thread, but I just remembered that this thread existed.

I pretty much passed on the album - just forgot to check it out - but an anime series recently used "Falling Down" as the opening music theme song:

And they released a longer version of the opening with the full song here:

I guess it's going to be like "Half the World Away", where I associate the Oasis song with a TV show more than for the song itself. But anyway, I love the song.
