Don Cheadle replaces Terrence Howard in "Iron Man 2"

That's too bad; Howard's role in Iron Man was basically all setup for becoming War Machine in the second film. From an artistic standpoint, it must suck to have run through that paint-by-numbers part only to have no payoff.

That said, at least we know Cheadle has the acting chops. My only concern would be age; he's about as old as Robert Downey Junior, but looks it more. Still, I suppose that's what makeup is for.

EDIT: Oh, and it keeps up the trend of having the supporting cast be Academy Award nominees.

Creditorly yours, the Rent Woman

In unrelated news, Katie Holmes, Terrence Howard, Eric Bana, Jennifer Connelly, Thomas Jane and Billy Dee Williams have been cast as the new Justice League.

That's a shame. Still, Cheadle's a good actor, and as The Dark Knight proved, recasting one of the supporting roles doesn't signal a death knell.

Wonder Woman, Green Lantern, Superman, Black Canary, Batman and...Martian Manhunter?

I'm really shocked. I thought Howard was a huge fan of War Machine?

I'll be interesting to see Don Cheadle's take on James Rhodey.

I don't think this will make much of an impact on the sequel. The only actor that's really irreplaceable for this series is RDJ.

Wow, sucks. Howard has a wry air of humor about him that perfectly mirrored RDJ's.

Relax everyone. It's just a training exercise.

Wait. It's not? Unfortunate. I thought that he was a good fit.

Howard's voice was very distracting and was anything but strong or charismatic enough to be comparable to Robert Downey Jr.'s. Certainly didn't seem commanding enough to be in the military, let alone such an apparently powerfully placed role in the military.

Cheadle does seem an odd replacement, but I'm glad they're replacing Howard nontheless. He honestly came across as weak, both physically and mentally, every time he was on the screen.

But I thought Marvel Studios could walk on water and crap out Gold????

Recasting in sequels rarely works...if ever. Its just distracting. Plus it nullifies the chemistry built up between the actors.

That is too bad..one of the strengths of the plan to build up to the Avengers movies was to keep the casts intact from the Iron Man,Hulk,Captain America and Thor movies...but maybe this won't hurt to much since Rhodes is a support character and would not have been a big factor in the Avengers.

I'm forced to agree with you on this. He's not a bad actor but I just don't think he was right for that part.
