Will We Ever See in ST:TNG Literature where...?

Dayton3

Admiral
Picard finally moves on from Enterprise-E command and the ship gets a new crew?

Seems to me that if the ST:TNG portion of the Trek book series continued for a few more years that would come about sometime.

Yeah, but who would buy it? TNG is about the characters, not the ship.

You might as well tell the adventures of the Enterprise-F.

Besides, with no new TV episodes or movies coming the timeline advances only at the rate the authors and editors choose. The next ten years worth of novels could only encompass a year or two of story time.

Yeah, that might happen, and when if it does the series will either end, or we will follow Picard & Co to their new ship. Because like Mike said, TNG is about the characters, so if you got rid of the characters then it wouldn't be TNG any more.
Beside, why the hell would we want to see this anyways?:wtf:

I could maybe see TNG going on with Picard, I mean VOY is going on without Janeway, and DS9 went on for quite a while without Sisko. But I really couldn't see getting rid of any more show characters than that, because at that point it wouldn't even feel like TNG anymore.

Why would it come about? Picard has shown no indications that he would shift over to a desk job, and you can't get a better posting than the Captain of the Enterprise. It is the flagship of the fleet, after all. (Yeah, yeah, I realize, it's more of a figurehead role since there are fleets within the fleet, but the ship has been called that before, so the term sticks.)

I doubt TNG, at this point, could survive the lose of Picard. Not with Riker, Troi, and Data all gone as well.

Which brings up a good point, will Geordi ever leave? He lost most of his friends, and it seems him, Worf, and Picard were never as close as he was with Riker and Data. So wouldn't Geordi move to be on a better engineering ship?

I think it might eventually be worth exploring what happens to the characters when they finally move on from the E-E or from Starfleet altogether, but it'll probably be quite a while in story time before that happens. Then again, surely the past half-decade or so has shown that it's unwise to make any assumptions about what can't happen in Trek literature.

How about a book expanding on the old Starlog cartoon about the Enterprise-Z? "Now be very careful with it, 'cause this is the last one...." :D

No, they'd just start using double letters.

"Welcome aboard the Enterprise-AA! It runs entirely on two batteries (not included, sold separately)."

Riker, Data, and Troi are gone, and new people are in their places. Isn't that change enough?

And you could add more options by combining different letters:

Enterprise-AC: Coolest ship in the fleet.
Enterprise-DA: Attached to the Judge Advocate General's office.
Enterprise-PI: Assists Enterprise-DA.
Enterprise-BC: Attached to Temporal Investigation.
Enterprise-BFF: The crew really sticks together.
Enterprise-RV: The vacation starship.
Enterprise-ADD: Never stays in one place long enough to complete a mission.

I wonder if Geordi will get the Challenger in "real" life, just like in VOY's "Timeless". Although I like the SCE idea better.

As for Picard: Of course he wouldn't take a desk job, but what about a fleet command? Admirals can get out into the field. (Admiral Ross from DS9, for example.)

I just hope that Picard doesn't get Irumodic Syndrome like in AGT's false future. :(

I think eventually all these things must be explored. It's unlikely Picard and crew will die of old age on the Enterprise. But simply splitting them up for the sake of "mixing things up" wouldn't be very true to the characters. I think I touched on Geordi on another thread, but it'd be a much better scenario to see him start to question his career and personal ambitions, not simply decide over the course of one novel he's leaving. Picard is much the same. I see him teaching, not being a Fleet Admiral. His most tempting offer was when they offered him the commandant position at Starfleet Academy. It was very tempting to him. But I still think they have a few more years aboard the Enterprise. Geordi stayed because he felt Picard needed him, after the recent events and the ones coming (Destiny) I can't see how he'd feel his work was done. But after the Borg threat (assuming he makes it through), that might be the perspective he needs to think longer term. Maybe then he makes a move towards Command or Engineering.
