OT: Photoshop Learning

BolianAuthor

Writer, Battlestar Urantia
Rear Admiral
Hi, all...

I wanted to post this here, because I think this is the first time I have truly been able to succeed, in attaining an "antiqued" effect on an image that was originally perfectly "clean", so I'm (hopefully justifiably) proud of my result.

I wanted to create a splash/title image for an upcoming story I'm working on, called "Redeux", which is an alternate history story. I wanted to emulate the effect seen quite often in the opening titles of American Revolution films, and book covers. I am very happy with what I did, and I ended up using about four different Photoshop filters/techniques to come up with the final product.

Here is the original source image, first:

And here is my final result:

Please let me know what you think, and if you think I was successful. If so, there is hope, lol... if not... back to the drawing board. :D

The sepia effect is nice, and I like the font you used. Others might have issues with the legibility of the font though. It almost looks like it says "Revelix".

I agree with WillsBabe. Nice job, very cool! :techman:

I'm glad to know I'm not the only one who enjoys making 'bookcovers' for the stories I write. Whenever my muse stalls out on a story, I start playing with screen captures making photomanipulation 'bookcovers' to go with the story I'm writing. When I get a photomanip I'm particularly happy with, it is sized down and put into the appropriate collage on the different index pages of the websites.

Warmest Wishes,
Whoa Nellie

Well, if it's an alternate timeline he's shooting for, "Reveillex" could be the chronicle of the French States of America. :p

Thanks, guys. sojourner, I'm glad you also like the "sepia/antiqued" effect... it is a look I really like a lot.

Whoa Nellie, aye, I always like to create a splash/cover image for all my stories, if at all possible. I like to think of these images as the prose/literary equivalent of a film's opening credits.

USS Murderer, it's an alternate history, but strangely, it takes place in the future, and deals almost exclusively with America, and one other nation, but not France. :D
