A Shatner conquest

On a side note, when did Shatner develop such a pleasant, deep voice?
Doesn't seem to be outside his natural range, but I'm sure the medium (audiobook) had a lot to do with it, and so would the environment in which he was working. While there is acting in storytelling, the majority of the narrative will naturally be more subdued, with occasional speaking peaks for high points in the story being told. Too, working from a chair, wearing a set of headphones and having one's nose buried in a music stand reading from a written page has a tendency to relax and flatten out a performance.

It could also be that there was a producer or recording engineer reining him in if he got too animated.

Nice bit, though. :D

That was one of those occasions where an English speaker could have benefited from the Romance languages' dichotomy of the word, love. In English, there's love and love. In Spanish, for example, there's querer and amar. He meant querer, and she heard amar.

I don't know when he visited Koko; but in the late '80's I had a student internship at the Jane Goodall Society, and they also were interested in Penny Patterson's work with Koko. I had heard that Koko was not fond of a certain prospective gorilla mate, named Michael. In fact, she signed "poop" in reference to him. So, I think Koko was a grownup girl by the time of this video. Shatner was so lucky to meet her.

The visit took place in 1988, according to the excerpt found in this Good Morning America book review page.

^ ^ Thanks for that; I'll put it into a sound file and give it a listen later on with my news.

Good lord, even gorillas are romanced by The Shat. Notice he wasn't 'poop' to Koko.
