The excitement just doesn't seem to stop at the Walt Disney Showcase at the Kodak Theater in Hollywood today. Not too long ago, the USC Marching Band began playing the William Tell Overture and none other than Johnny Depp himself came walking out onto the stage, revealing two new projects with just his outfit alone.

He came strolling out onto the stage wearing his full Captain Jack Sparrow costume from Pirates of the Caribbean AND he was wearing the mask of The Lone Ranger as well!

Depp confirmed that he has indeed signed on for both Jerry Bruckheimer's The Lone Ranger and Pirates of the Caribbean 4 to boot.

UPDATE: Disney has just confirmed that Depp in fact is officially signed on to play Tonto in the The Lone Ranger film and not the The Lone Ranger himself.

Sounds pretty kickass to me! I wish there were more story details but I was seriously hoping that we'd get more Captain Jack Sparrow. My pet title is Pirates of the Caribbean: The Scourge of the Spanish Main. (The sequel in my head also casts Antonio Banderas as Ponce de Leon, Angelina Jolie as Jack's new love interest, and has a minor cameo for Keira Knightley as a very pregnant Elizabeth Turner.)

Depp was fun in the role, but the two sequels (and, honestly, the first film) managed to suck a lot of that fun out with practically everything else involved. Will a fourth film be more heavily Sparrow-centric? That's the only way I see this working.

I'm a fan of the series. Like most movie franchises the original is still the best. I thought the third one tried too hard to be epic. As long as they have a better script for the next one I'll check it out opening weekend.

Depp as Tonto? Wow. Should be interesting. Can't wait for the first person to complain about it...

IMO, Pirates 2 was by far the best, because it was by the far the most focused on Jack, who was, apart from Norrington and perhaps Davy Jones, the only interesting character in the trilogy. As long as the next Pirates keeps it sights on Depp, I'll be interested.

And seeing him square off against Banderas again would be awesome!

Given that Will and Elizabeth's story is over and done, I see no need for them to make an appearence. They could make it Jack centric as Barbossa and the others try to come after him for stealing the map to the Fountain of Youth...

Not to mention if they make a 4th one it gives me a reason to pull out the Jack sparrow costume for Halloween again. lol

Pirates of the carribean - the only movie series to literally put me to sleep for every single outing. Disney pap.

I just hope they go back to basics and make it mostly a fun adventure with a lighter supernatural presence, as in The Curse of the Black Pearl. Dead Man's Chest and At World's End were way too bloated, took themselves far too seriously, and were way too heavy on the supernatural stuff.

The first movie was fun, the second movie sucked so badly I never cared enough to watch the turd... third.

I thought all the Pirates movies were really fun, so I'm really looking forward to a 4th one. Depp is just fantastic as Sparrow IMHO.

You've got to wonder who can hold his own against Depp (who I'm guessing will get all the best lines and funny moments while the Ranger plays it straight).

Yay! Any more Jack Sparrow is a great thing!

Depp has played part Native American before and pulled it off :techman:

And the Mad Hatter  Oh ya, I can see that!

I totally agree..to me it was just too fantastic for its own good...
