Will we see living Ancients in "Stargate: Universe"?

I am sure we will get the obligatory flashback scene showing the Ancients preparing the Destiny for launch, but do you think the the SGU team will meet living Ancients, Ascended Ancients or perhaps long lost descendants of the Ancients?

God I hope not. I'm so sick of ancients and ascension! Both have completely lost their mystique and cool-ness.

But yes, I'm sure we will sadly.

Ancients were cool when we knew little to nothing about them and that's how it should have stayed.

Exactly.

Ditto Ascension and replicators.

Nemesis, Small Victories, Enemies, Menace... all great replicator episodes. Reckoning and that whole arc... was pushing it. Now they're a dull joke.

Ascension as well, the episode 'Ascension' with Orlin, Meridian etc all great. Full Circle, sort of pushing it... now it's every other week we hear about some kind of ascension.

Replicators + Ascension... oh dear god.

I hope not. Not only has late SG-1 and Atlantis demystified the ancients, they've revealed them to be boring and unremarkable.

Whether that was intentional or not, I kinda liked that. We spent years hearing about the ancients, and while the did have some cool stuff for us to play with, they ultimately turned out to be, well, not all that fantastic after all. It seems like lots of times when we meet our heroes, they turn out not to be what we expected. Just my two cents.

I think what did the Ancients in was that they had both an strong Ancient arc in SG-1 and Atlantis at the same time. It really overplayed it. Had SG-1 ended with "Moebius", I don't think people would feel Ancient-ed out.

That being said, I bet the Ancients will be talked about in the pilot, but then just amount to "background noise" in terms of "Hey, this is an ancient device on the ship" type thing. I really have a gut feeling (hope, perhaps?) that TPTB want to change up the format and will avoid of having direct Ancient meetings, but if they do, it would only be for an "event" episode. I could be way wrong, but those are just my thoughts.

I thought that one of the points of SG1 was to demistify the old Gods of earth so demistifying the Ancients would be the next logical step. And we know that ascension isn't the end all be all of existance.

I think there's a difference between an ancient race that might have a few flaws and finding out that the ancients were a bunch of panty-waisted nitwits.

I mean they are down right uninspiring.
I was expecting them to be a bit more majestic like the elves of Lord of the Rings.

It was absolutely necessary to demystify the ancients, no question about it. But they've been brought to a point far beyond taking away the awe. They're just boring, weak, and often plain stupid. They've been taken to the point where it's hard to believe they created the Stargate system anymore.

That just proves that the unascended Ancients were human, capable of great feats of technology and sometimes great stupidity as well.

If we see living Ancients, They need to have at least some characters who are not either mind numbingly dense or irritatingly arrogant. The Ancients we've seen so far have not endeared me to the race at all. And what's more, they need to drop the 'ooooh, the Ancients' awe-inspired tone - that worked on SG-1 when the Ancients really were cool and mysterious, but Atlantis has met them all too often for them still to be remotely deserving of our characters open-mouthed awe.

Now I have nothing in particular against the Ancients not being mysterious and incredibly awesome when we met them - as someone said upthread, it's actually interesting to see that our heroes that we've travelled galaxies to meet are normal flawed beings who perhaps don't live up to our expectations. In fact, they could even be a bit stuck up from their own accomplishments and still be interesting. But it is really beginning to stretch credibility that the Ancients actually portrayed on Atlantis ever managed the sort of feats we are told they did. They've moved from being interesting to being annoying, and it's particualrly irksome that our characters still treat the whole concept of them with such deference.

The Ancients are humans capable of great stupidy

Thrilling.

They also built the stargates and Altantis, so just calling them stupid is a generalization.

Firstly, you're the only who brought up stupidity, I was only quoting you.

And secondly, that's the point we're trying to make. We were told they built the Stargate network, Atlantis, travelled between galaxies, one of the Four Races etc... they were made to be cool, mysterious, and incredibly advanced.

SG-1 and specifically Atlantis has shown them to be ordinary, boring, and not in the least bit interesting, whilst at the same time shoving them down our throats every few episodes to the point where many fans are completely sick of them.

We desperately need several eps that show us the flesh and blood Ancients having done something big and unselfish... something noble, something only they would-something only they could do, for others, and NOT just themselves.

What will be even more irksome, is for our heroes to manage to pull off something they couldn't, namely, defeat the Wraith-or deal them such a crippling blow that the Pegasus galaxy will be relatively safe afterwards. :scream:

Try quoting my entire statement then you took my post out of context, you can't blame all of the Ancients for the actions of just a few of them. And no not everybody is trying to make your point. In the end all we know of them is their failures and their technology advances, we don't know how they lived their day to day lives and one thing that kind of stuff isn't mysterious at all.

In the end only the ascended ancients were all that mysterious and it really doesn't matter to me if they show some flesh and blood ancients but I'm sure it'll be in a flashback.

So you disagree with my opinion that the Ancients are boring, lifeless people that considering their build up on SG-1, are now a huge anti-climax?

(silly question)

Sigh...Sci Fi's running the ep right now where the Jaffa used the Life Seeding device on Dakara to wipe out people on planets that succumb to Origin. The freakin' JAFFA were able to adapt the program (created by Ba'al and Sam) that wiped out the Replicators, and modify it to zap human life.
And the Ancients couldn't use the one that had to exist in Pegasus to target Wraith? Like it or not, the ensuing storylines on both shows had the unintentedl effect of making the 'greatest race that evah lived', look seriously lame. :(
