Hell yes.

Woohoo! Cigars for everyone!

I'm glad I got to catch the tail end of the game on TV yesterday. Go Cubbies. I've got a Kerry Wood action figure on the dashboard of my car for good luck now! :techman:

Maybe ... but he seems to have settled down to a potentially nice career as a relief pitcher

I'm not criticizing his performance this year, what I'm referring is that fact that he's been injured for most of his career.

He could fall apart at any moment. Nothing against Wood but he's the posterchild for "bad luck."

I know ... but he hasn't spent any time on injured reserve this season has he? If that's true, then perhaps the change to the position from starter was part of it. In any event, it's great to see such talent find a way to survive. Does he throw as fast as he did when he was starting?

The Brewers needed that win. Too little too late though?

Go Braves! I hope this helps knock the Mets out of contention.

I hate the Braves. I hate Turner Field and the entire city of Atlanta. If the Braves woulda played half as hard against the Phillies as they do against the Mets they mighta finished the season a little higher then 4th place.

Have I mentioned how much I despise Sept, and at least the Brewers are doing a tad worse then Los Mets. Heres hoping Jon Niese and his 12-6 curve can carve up the Cubbies tonight.

Mets bullpen blows lead No. 29 yesterday. I swear everytime I see they are up a few runs in the 6th or 7th and think, "they've got this one locked up" I come back they next to find out they imploded again. There's no way this team has the arms to win a playoff series. And they've got the Cubs coming to town this week, which is not an easy team to beat.

I went away for the weekend. We came back to our room in the late afternoon to hang out before dinner and I caught some of the Rays game. They're good, and a bunch of nobodies! They are such a good story. If the Mets don't win it, this is the team I'd like to see.

Some interesting numbers here:

If baseball games ended after the 6th inning the Mets would be 11.5 games ahead of the Phillies.

If games ended after the 8th inning the Mets would be 6.5 games ahead of the Phils.

Good thing we play 9 innings!

ETA: Of course, the number of theoretical games Jayson Stark has in this calculation come out with the Phils playing 3 fewer than the Mets, so who knows how accurate this thing is.

Well, the Red Sox choke tonight with Beckett being outpitched by someone with an ERA north of 6.00. With the Rays winning, the Sox are now 2.5 games out of first and can kiss the AL East goodbye. They'll have to settle for the wild card, play the Angels on the road, and hope not to get eliminated in the first round. Tomorrow's pretty much an automatic win for Cleveland with the red-hot Lee pitching against the shaky Wakefield.

I hate Cleveland.

The whole thing with the ball hitting the umpire was fucking rediculous. That's one run, if not two. Thats a rule I fucking hate. That ball was a fair ball before it him him. That ball should be called a ground rule single or double with the umpire's discretion. That, and some unclutch hitting really pissed me off tonight. Just clinch the berth already, I don't want any drama.

So is there any chance whatsoever - however small - for the Yankees to make the playoffs?

Yes, if the Yanks win all of their remaining games and the Red Sox lose all of theirs. But since the Sox are not the Mets, it's really a "no."

So, when is JD Drew coming back? They should return Kotsay for store credit.

Well, the Yankees *did* win their last game. :techman: How many do the Sox have left?

They have six left after this. But not only do the Yanks have to win the rest of their games, and the Sox have to loose theirs, they would have to play a tie breaker at Fenway after that.

So really, there is a mathematical chance, but not a good one. The Sox are too good to loose every game they have for the rest of the year.
