I love the new cups, but I think the nav dish needs to be a copper or bronzes color like TOS. I would add more color behind the dish! That is just me< it is your baby!
Thanks dude, but no, as I am not at all fond of gold (and that copper reminds me too much of that, makes me think "old" as I'm a fresh clean silver wearin' kind o' guy), that will never happen. Never in all my days did I like the orange/copper. That and the nacelle end globes' jammed-in design, were the two things I never liked on E and couldn't wait to change.
Think of it as a progression toward the TMP dish if that helps. That's how I think of it anywho.

Y'know I have to agree with your perspective on this. I'm just so damned used to the TOS Conny that I've always taken the copper dish for granted. it never really dawned on me until just now how ridiculous copper is for a starship in the 22nd Century. You would imagine that by the 22nd Century they would have gotten past using materials from the middle ages.

TOS fans will understand the origin relating to this alternate reality TOS.5 take on Capt. Christopher's first coming abroad the ENTERPRISE. Most likely anywho. Suffice it to say, in my TOS.5 universe, Big E's tractor-beams are a bit more sensitive and versatile in their calibration, thus are better able to account for a given craft's inherent structural load tolerances.

I was about to ask what that weird rendering artifact was that appears on the clamshell doors when I realized it was the tail-mounted horizontal stabilizer of the F-104! I forgot how razor-thin the control surfaces were on that winged rocket.

Thee simplest of reason for that: E is not symmetrical. It has popped up as such in these latter-day creations, both on-screen and fan-built, but the fact of the matter is, E, as she was in TOS, was not symmetrical in detailing. And I like that aspect of her, so I kept it.

For the record though, she's my own TOS.5 model eh.
Oh, and as to my thoughts about that, most things in life, including large vessels, are just not perfectly symmetrical, and I think Matt Jefferies understood that also.

That shot in the hangar is just awesome. I kept wanting to open those side hatches for a peek down the corridors. I think it was Franz Joseph who speculated the large block hanging from the ceiling was the tractor beam. What's your thought on its purpose if the shuttlecraft tractor is an array along the port and starboard sides? Or are those the final, landing tractors?

I had not heard that (or just don't recall it perhaps), but I always thought of the large block as a TB array also, as well as the two smaller ones on the ceiling raft. There would have to be some sort of TB relay array, as the main exterior emitter on the ventral side under the bay itself could not guide craft all the way into the bay. It would have to "hand off" craft to other emitters. The 104's gear are not deployed of course, because despite USAF training, I feel Christopher would not really think to do that in such a bizarre and weird situation, at least for a bit anywho, so his bird is tractor-ed still, hanging just above the deck at this point. I would imagine once Kirk and Scotty got down there they would instruct Christopher to drop his gear, but this is the moment captured (pun intended) on film just when the bay doors have finished closing (notice the red alert lights still on).
Anywho, I always liked those nurnies on the side walls and took advantage of them to bring the shot to life, assigning their function as bay TB emitters. I like the way it all came together, as I really love this shot eh. I was, and still am, always fascinated by the TIY eps., as ever since I was a kid, it made Trek seems the closest to reality for me, for obvious reasons. As kids, growing up in Chicago (the city itself), my bro and I used to (and still do now-and-then) sit on the porch and imagine that a T-Rex was walking/stalking down our street, or that the ENTERPRISE was flying over in the blue sky. Such compelling images in our minds. So we loved the TIY episode in particular, and were thrilled later when Jurassic Park came out, big time.

It's the color itself Jeff, not so much the metal itself. The color turns me off (always has, not even in regard to E), and silver is my one of my fav colors, so silver it is, and silver it will stay in my TOS.5 universe.

I do have one complaint. In TOS, the tractor beam was never visible. In later incarnations of Trek, it all of sudden became visible. I never understood this. Maybe in the oxygen/nitrogen environment of the hanger deck, it could be visible. I'll give you that. But in space? What is doing the glowing? I think that the original folks got this one right. Tractor beams should be invisible. I hope in later incarnations of this series, you keep the tractor beam invisible.

That's what I was thinking... It's possible that there are other elements or alloys that are that color in the future.
