XBOX360 - Overheating still a problem?

I bought my 360 in October '06 as well and never had a problem with it... until this month when it started freezing up during games with increasing frequency followed about two weeks ago by the Red Ring of Death. I sent it to be repaired a week ago Monday and by Friday Microsoft had already shipped it back to me. UPS says to expect it by this Friday, but I'm hoping it's sooner. It'll be interesting to see if I get my unit back or a refurbished one.

Yeah, it's annoying for this to have happened, but I suppose if I had to be without my 360 for a couple of weeks these two weeks were as good as any. Better now than when all the good fall games start coming out. However, if the problem happens again, then I'll be pissed.

When that happened to me, I got a refurbished one.

That's what I'm thinking, especially after the quick turn-around. I figure they have a supply of refurbished units and ship them as soon as the broken ones arrive.

If you're trying to be an educated consumer, you might wait until people can figure out which lots have the Japser boards. Ultimately, the GPU die shrink should solve the remaining problems.

This is what I'm doing. I figure I'll probably grab a 360 just before Fallout 3... most of the Falcons should be phased-out by then and replaced with Jaspers, I should think.

Guess we'll need to know the serial numbers. Honestly, I'm not sure where to look for that information.

People go buy lot number and team ID, and that information is usually on the side of the box.

I bought an X-Box 360 Saturday, and out of the box it had the Red Ring of Death. Fantastic! Got another one Sunday. It's working at least.

I've had mine since October '06 (non Falcon) and never had a problem with it.

I don't know why, but I was always under the impression you had a launch day unit. But since you didn't, that might explain why you never had a problem.

EDIT TO ADD: I'm saying that because of the peope I know with failures, we all had launch day (or near launch) units.

Nope, I've stated several times October '06.
I have also said I know several people (and I do) with a launch day system that have never had a problem.

Ya know some people confuse RROD with a power cord that is not plugged in all the way, you will get 3 red rings.
Not saying it didn't happen to you, just saying.
I know that power cord can sometimes get bumped out it not seated all the way.
I've pulled mine out dusting around it and my cats (for some reason)
like to jump up where my 360 sets and wrestle  :censored: :brickwall:

A question about the transfer kit how do you get one ? because next year I am planning on selling my 360 (should it still be working ) and replacing it with the new Premium version because of the fixes & 60 GB HDD.

Is the cable just for Premium to Elite or will it work with any 2 consoles ?

and of course I know it's a one time thing.

If they sold the 60gb hard drive seperately for, say, £40, I'd definitely get it. I wouldn't mind upgrading to the 120gb one but not for the best part of £100.

Sort it out M$ you bunch of cunts. The markup on that thing must be fucking outrageous!

Well the odd thing is the pricing as a bundle or buying seperately. I can buy an Elite with a 120 GB harddrive for $399 OR I can by an Arcade for $199 and a standalone HDD for $150 for a total of $349. The only real difference I'm seeing is that the Arcade doesn't have a component cable included. But I was told that the lastest Arcades have a HDMI output (someone correct me if I'm wrong about that). So I'm not sure why anyone, who is either connecting via HDMI or not using a HDTV and is okay with composite cables, would go with the Elite bundle over buying stuff seperately.

Other than in the 120GB drive, the only other way is to order it from MS directly.

Ok but it will work between any two X Box 360's no matter what class?

Here is the data transfer document

http://assets.xbox.com/en-us/support/MigrationKit-OrderForm.pdf

Just fill it out and fax it back.
I got mine in 2 days.

As for the transfer you can go HD to HD of equal or greater value.

You cannot say take a 120gb and transfer it to a 60gb even if less than 60gb of the space is used.
