TOS-R TV channel change in NYC... AGAIN!!!

Just a heads up for all those watching the remastered TOS in the NYC metro area. They changed channels again for the third season!! It's back to WPIX, channel 11 (& their HD channel if you get it), Saturday 12 midnight - Sunday 12am. Looks like "All Our Yesterdays" is up for this weekend. PIX carried the first part of the first remastered season, then WWOR picked it up through the end of the 2nd season. Now it's back on WPIX. I don't know, go figure! At least it's still on so I can see some of my faves I missed the first time around, like "Arena" & "By Any Other Name." Happy HD-ing!! ...and can't wait for the Blu-Ray, 3-season package, ...I hope, I hope, I hope!!!

THanks for the head's up. My DVR would have cought it I guess, but it's good to know! I think the first season of syndication was actually on WNBC here in New York. I was working for CBS at the time, and was surprised that WNBC was the local syndicator, of course it was on at 3AM for god's sake.

If anyone has noticed, the syndicated stations can only air the episodes in true HD for the eps. that CBS sent them after the first round of syndication.

Last I heard stations were not getting the actual HD version of the episodes. Has there been a change? I haven't seen anything about it at trekmovie.com or any other news site.

Oops, yeah, you're right. That's how I first found out about it! I woke up at 3am one night in front of the TV with WNBC on, & it was showing "Mirror, Mirror," & all of a sudden I see this great reverse orbital shot of the Enterprise, & I said, "WTF!!" TOS-R did eventually jump to WPIX, then to WWOR, now back to WPIX.

I've got a small HD set on loan until I get my first big HD soon, so I guess I can't tell if it's true HD on their HD channel until I see the ones I recorded on my HD DVR on the bigger set, but it sure looks good now! I'm sure you're right about that, though. My mistake.

All I know is that my cable box shows me what resolution is being transmitted or displayed, and on old eps. of TOSR it shows 480i I believe, and on more recent eps in my DRV, it shows at 720 or higher, I will go back and double check the specs.

Edit: Ok here is what I found on my DVR:

DOOMSDAY MACHINE - REC ON 2/12 - WNBC HD - 1080i
SPACE SEED - REC ON 11/20 - WNBC HD - 1080i
GALILEO SEVEN - REC ON 8/17 - WWOR HD - 720p
ULTIMATE COMPUTER - REC ON 9/7 - WWOR HD - 720p
TURNABOUT INTRUDER - REC ON 8/3 - WWOR HD - 720p

So I'm not really sure if CBS is delivering these HD broadcasts in two different file sizes, (depending on the capabilites of the syndicated station) or if they just send the eps. in the format that they have from the first time the HD was encoded for upload to the stations.

The broadcast definition and what is being delivered to the stations are two different things. If you check any broadcasts, including the afternoon soaps or an infomercial, you will find those exact same resolutions you posted here. A NBC affiliate like WNBC broadcasts at 1080i. NBC affiliates all over the country broadcast at 1080i. WWOR is owned by Fox, and Fox affiliates broadcast everything at 720p.

Cyrus' question was, are the TOS-R episodes being delivered to the stations in HD? The last two years they haven't been. They were transmitted to the stations in standard definition, either 480p or 480i. They still might be broadcast in high definition. Clearly yours were. But it was an SD source broadcast in HD. We'll see what happens this year.

I follow, but just so you know, my DVR cable box does not show 1080i all the time on a channel no matter what they are showing.

TOS-R just got pulled from Roanoke's Saturday afternoon lineup as well as I'm having a little trouble finding where my local FOX station moved it. I don't think it's been yanked altogether since many calls were made in support of the show since 2006 and it gets very good numbers for its time slot and content, but it can be like finding a needle in a haystack locating where some of our local stations move syndicated programming in the fall.

Try a search in your listing on TVGuide.com, before i hade the guide that could shearch on my cable, that was the best way I found Trek showtime info. I sure hope they found another station to buy the syndication package in your area!

You could go to zap2it.com and do a search for "Star Trek" and see what episodes come up...aside from the ones on TV LAND. That'll tell you when it's on locally.

I was going to do it, but since you don't say WHICH Roanoke you're from it's a little hard. (Virginia, Texas, Indiana...who knew there were so many?)

I think it's pretty nice TOS is airing on WPIX-11 again. When it first aired in syndication, it was on that channel in NYC that I watched the series as a kid. That is, once I was old enough to stay up late, since I was born only a few weeks after the final episode first aired. At first, I could only watch it on Saturday afternoons as it aired at midnight on weekdays. But once I got to regular viewings, I enjoyed it more and more. Such great memories. It's still top on my list of favorite Trek series (behind only DS9) and will always have a special place in my heart. :)

Hey Terra Pryme, we must be just about the same age and from NY as well. I thought about all the PIX connections to Trek too. The great promo's "11's ALIVE with Star Trek, next!" :)

The local KC station went from airing it at 12:30 Sunday morning to 4pm Saturday afternoon starting this past weekend. It had started at 6pm on Saturdays during the first year, so having it moved back from the Witching Hour was fine with me. :)

I'm just glad at least one station will keep carrying TOS-R around here. I can accept losing one episode per weekend, but not both...since "The Cage" has yet to air anywhere and I don't wanna miss that one.

I keep forgetting it's on, and now they're switching channels to make it even harder?!

That's the thrid channel it's been on in the NY area, NBC, then WOR, then WPIX! :cardie:

For a while my area was doing so well. TOS-R stayed planted in its two weekend slots and didn't have to worry about much sports or news preemption. Now we're going back to square one and trying to figure out what graveyard slot the local channels slid one of the two episodes in.

All Our Yesterdays - REC on 9/14 - WPIX HD - 1080i

The LA stations have always shown it in 1080i, but its not real HD. It's just upconverted from 480p. We probably won't see it broadcast in HD until it's sold to some cable network (probably SciFi).

I don't think any of the TOS-R episodes in my area have ever been broadcast in HD. Not sure if they were ever going to be.
