Your short list for The 11th Doctor

Actually I think Callis would be quite different from Tennant. Callis is a lot smoother and, no offence intended, somewhat camper. I could really see Callis as a Pertwee'esque dandy of a Doctor.

Ioan Gruffud with Edith Bowman. the campaign starts HERE!

She's nothing without Colin Murray.

No, he's not camp, he's foppish. Big difference!

I think he could play the Doctor, but he'd in some ways be better as the Master. A different Master, who is more like Delgado's suave supervillain. Perhaps even going around the universe with a girl on his arm, pretending to be the Doctor.

Yes foppish suits him better, although he was pretty damn camp in Bridget Jones :D

I do like the idea of him as the Master, much better suited than Simm IMO.

Further on my choice for 11, ive found a couple of images to see Rufus Sewell as the 11th Doctor. Ive been wanting Rufus in a major role since he was rumoured to replace Pierce Brosnan as James Bond back in 2003 and even screen tested i believe.

The first image is from Dark City (1998) and the second from Eleventh Hour (2008).

Sewell as John Murddoch, in a similar trench coat to that of Tennants 10. This image is striking as it makes it appear as if it is part of a post regeneration episode after 10 regenerates mid season/story and as yet hasnt changed or been put in someone elses pyjamas.

Again, from Eleventh Hour, this image also looks like a post regeneration image due to the trench coat, however it can also be seen as a promo pic from a new season with new outfit, new hair, new face and new companion.

I might whip together a couple of photo manips a bit later, but Rufus being a Shakesperian actor similar to that of Timothy Dalton and Patrick Stewart will emulate an amazing presence that is present in all his performances.

I think Sewell would be great, another one of those guys who could quite easily play the Doctor or the Master. Could be quite a Colin Baker-esque Doctor (Only hopefully with a better tailor)

Well, he couldn't very well have a worse tailor than the Sixth Doctor!

I agree, Sewell would be quite good, and he has an interesting look for the Doctor. He's a very intense actor - he might be more along the lines of what Eccleston did with the character,

I'm not sure what actor would necessarily be right for this but I think I'd like a more child-like, distracted Doctor-- like Tom Baker (or Colin Baker or William Hartnell on occasion). Eccleston & Tennant have both been so intense, I think it would be a nice change of pace to have a playful lollygagger instead. Then they could balance that out by making his companion a former police detective, a very driven woman who actually finds herself in the position of dragging the Doctor back to the plot.

I just think that, whatever they do, we're in a similar situation to where we were when Tom Baker left. When he left, they made a very conscious effort to make sure that the 5th Doctor would be very different. I think that Tennant has been so strong in the role that they need to again go in a deliberately opposite direction for the 11th Doctor. However, I'm just not sure what that would look like, particularly since I'm not sure the writers of the new series really see the Doctor in any other way.

Honestly, I feel like Eccleston & Tennant are very similar. Tennant is, of course, a much faster talker than Eccleston and not quite as moody but they're still very similar. In fact, there are times where I can clearly hear Tennant's voice saying a line in my head even though I know the line actually comes from an Eccleston episode.

Speaking of Doctors in drag, one of the candidates for the eighth Doctor was supposedly Barry Humphries of Dame Edna fame.

Well yeah, but if you read Gary Russell's excellent book Regeneration, which chronicles the gestation process and making of the TV Movie, it becomes readily apparent that everyone who was either English or could do an English accent was a "candidate" for the Eighth Doctor. FOX, in its usual display of staggering intellect, even wanted Sting for the part!

If someone has already suggested this one, apologies for missing it. But, I think Henry Ian Cusick (Desmond Hume on Lost) could pull a mixture of older-but-younger for the 11th Doctor...

I go for Ioan.. He has been excellent in previous roles and just looks the part.

But now The, has gone and put "Baltar" on my brain. Bad The, Bad The! (kidding.. seriously envious here)

You know, every time I look at him nowadays, I think to myself, "Nicolas Cage... :wtf:"

Going back to comedy actors who could do something serious, I also wonder what Paul Whitehouse's Doctor might look like...

Sam Troughton. Not because he's Patrick Troughton's grandson but because I've now seen him on two nearly unwatchable TV shows (Hex & Robin Hood) and he was always the best thing on them. It would be nice to see him on a good show for once. (Put him on Torchwood if you don't think he's right for the Doctor.)

Heh! He was a surprisingly nice, personable guy. Very real and honest... :techman:

I think maybe some English man of Indian Descent or partial Indian Descent would be a cool choice.

Baring that I still want to see David Hewlitt as the Doctor, I mean he is technicaly born in England and he has a bunch of free time coming up.
