remastered..THUMBS DOWN

I can't imagine how utterly incapable people are at looking at the near future, and what's going on. If they were ever planning on releasing the originals on HD and further future formats, they would have been on those HD-DVDs NOW.
There's absolutely no reason to offer the pre-CGI versions on a Blu-Ray disc in SD, when every Blu-Ray player can play the pre-CGI DVDs, and thus Paramount can sell the sets for cheaper because of the higher volume. Maybe five years down the road, when Blu-Ray adoption has picked up, it might be worthwhile for them to rerelease a four-disc Blu-Ray set of the complete pre-CGI series, but now is not that time.

(And it's better to keep the original at SD resolution, rather than trying to blow it up on the disc; that way the display device can make the decisions about how to enlarge the image beforehand. It likely knows better than Paramount how to make SD content look best on it.)

And trevanian, calm down about number6, too. He's been offline since you first posted, an easy enough fact to check if you look at his profile.

If somebody is going to drop a sillyass snipe like that and NOT expect a reply, he/she/it shouldn't be dropping the sillyass snipe in the first place. But I guess there isn't any law here against sillyass sniping, considering the nature of certain other posters ...

Plus, you don't have to be online to read the site, which is why I never bother checking that anyway.

You need to stop experimenting with the dosage.

Especially if you feel you need to check with me for enlightenment.

if I have to explain it, you just wouldn't get it.

As I thought, your snipe is unsupported, probably unsupportable, just an aid to a fellow snipeartist, embellished now with another sillyass emoticon.

What is it with you guys, when one of you puts a foot in mouth and gets called on it, he emails the others to distract away with this nonsensical one-line crap?

Once again, it is attitude over content that seems to rule the board. If it were possible for me to feel ashamed for loving THE PRISONER series, things that post like you would certainly be the cause.

Two things:

- Stop with the fighting crap. Next person who does it in this thread after my post gets warned. It ends now.

- Not sure why people are upset over the Remastered. If you like them, buy them. If not, stick with the originals. I like some of the redone stuff, but not enough to pony up for getting the set. I still have my 40 cases of 2 episode disks. I paid twice, once for VHS and then for that. That's all Paramount is getting out of me.

Captain's Log Stardate 0209.10. Using the light speed breakaway factor, as well as some kicking WiFi at Panera Bread, the Enterprise has accessed data files from the early 21st century. These files were from an ancient form of communication once called the Internet, which the Federation now uses as a low band pornography only database, which, coincidentally, I have been put in command of monitoring.

Our mission: historical research. We are trying to determine how our planet survived desperate problems in the year....2008.

Spock: Captain, we seem to be intercepting someone's transporter beam.

Kirk: That's impossible. The 21st century has no such - -

Spock: It is eminating from a place the computer calls: "Mom's Basement."

Kirk: You're right. . .something is beaming aboard.

Two figures materialize on the pad. Both males, each holding a plate of Hot Pockets and yelling at each other.

Male #1: The originals are gone! GONE I say!!!
Male #2: The old effects suck! SUCK I tell you!!!

Kirk: Spock, can you make out what they're fighting about?

Spock (eyebrow rises): Something about sucking old originals. . .

Scotty: Cap'n! We're gettin' another figger comin thru!

Third male materializes. He's younger with glasses and LEAN Pockets.

Male #3: Shut up! Janeway is the better captain. JANEWAY!!!

Kirk: Beam them into space! Widest possible dispersion!

And the adventure. . .whatevers.

That's completely mistaken. Certainly the unavailability of TOS on "further future formats" right now is a moot point. The originals will be available in HD format in the near future, if not using the transitional Blu Ray technology.

Exactly the way I feel at this point. I like a lot of the Remastered episodes, but I have a sentimental preference for the originals - and I own them all, already. Not buying the new versions any time soon.

So can someone tell us just what the hell these badly written student films are?
No.

This thread has already taken enough casualties. Knowing a minutia about posting that has absolutely nothing to do with Star Trek and the worth of either the original or remastered episodes won't advance the conversation. It will only dredge up ill feelings that are best left tamped down, at least in my book.

It's death, or in this case warnings, by a thousand cuts. Can we please not make it a thousand and one?

Ummm, so I can't get an answer because someone's feelings might get hurt? Even though I'm not invested emotionally and I ask out of nothing more than curiosity rather than out of a desire to fight?

A thousand times

This kind of childish nonsense is exactly why I stopped posting for so long.

Regarding a 1000 cuts, I may have exaggerated for effect.

But not by much. This particular donnybrook has been going on through many threads for quite a while. It has flared up in a couple of recent threads, including this one. In my opinion, and it is only my opinion and you are welcome to disagree with it, now that the embers have cooled, it's best that they stay that way.

If you really want to know your answer, why don't you PM Dennis directly?

Oh, and childish nonsense is what at least this Trekkie is all about. :techman:

What's childish is that people have to insist that Trek be done on only their terms with no latitude and no compromise. This is the basement dweller mentality that is constantly lampooned on movies like Galaxy Quest, TV shows like Simpsons, SNL, South Park etc. It is the fact that fans take themselves so seriously and think that their opinions are actually better or more important that anyone else's.

Apparently in this thread I'm wrong or immature or not a true fan for enjoying TOS-R for what it is. Others simply prefer to vilify because someone had the nerve to tamper with their precious. The untampered originals are out there and available and likely will be for all of time. There will be new versions, special editions, fan collections, all kinds of things out there for consumption for anyone who is interested in parting with their disposable entertainment dollar. Enjoy it or don't but the indignant self righteous bile spewed at the people who like any Trek created post 1979 is pure grade school whiny childish petulant crap.

It's this kind of pedantic twaddle that perpetuates the sci-fi geek stereotype. We're not laughing with you. We're laughing at you.

 ^Says the guy who's constantly saying that TOS-R and TOS-R ONLY being available on HD is a-ok.

I admit to being befuddled as to why that's ironic.
I believe that 3D Master is pretending that number6 would pitch a fit if non-remastered TOS were made available on Blu-Ray in all its standard definition glory, something that I certainly don't see any reason to believe.

Yes. I do have it my way. I have the TOS I remembered on video and DVD and I have the option to buy the TOS-R if I choose to. TOS is available for download and when Blu-Ray comes to the world of Star Trek, I'm sure TOS will be available too. Nothing high and mighty about it.

People will always complain about not getting their way with Star Trek. I could go on and on about how cool a fourth season produced by GR would have been, or how great it would be if all the cast were still alive to do just one more film, or if Phase II actually made it to television or whatever.. but what's the point really? My complaining about it isn't going to change what's happened. The fact that they pulled TOS out of mothballs and released it in syndication in HD with new FX made me excited to watch TOS with a fresher perspective. Not since a Trek series was on the air had I looked forward to coming home to watch Star Trek and here was my favourite and I was looking forward to see what they did to it. I enjoyed TOS-R for what it was.

I'm so sorry that you people need to have such a huge problem with it.
Every time someone does something with Star Trek, there will always be a group of pedantic whiners to complain about how wrong it is. I would rather have an open mind and enjoy what they do with it. It doesn't mean that I always will. It doesn't mean that I always do. I was disappointed with TMP and I wasn't a huge fan of TNG or VOY. How many times do I bitch about it on this BBS?? Very little. Other people loved it and I thought it was ok enough to watch and be entertained. I didn't get my panties in a huge wad about it. It's a TV show. Some people just need to get over themselves. Their opinion is pretty worthless in the bigger picture. I don't think Paramount or JJ Abrams or whoever is going to read this board everyday and take notes on what they should and shouldn't do. That would drive any rational human being to snort Drano.

Dude, your tirade seems to ensure you don't listen.

This is about not having the option to see it unaltered in the best possible venue. It's the same thing as the SW unaltered thing, except trek means something to me, so the argument isn't just academic.

You wish there was a fourth season of TOS? Well if folks hadn't spoken up, there wouldn't have even been a third, and given the way syndication works, there's some question of whether trek would have been syndicated widely in the 70s with less episodes. Yet you think folks who aren't satisfied with getting altered versions need to get over themselves instead of complain?

Shoot, I'll take another warning. Why in hell don't you answer my repeated query? Just being a smartass about something you don't honestly know about?

It is you who isn't listening. TOS isn't even out on Blu Ray yet.

The rest of your rant doesn't even warrant a serious discussion, but the insults are entertaining.

TOS is in an HD format, one of two thus far. Paramount will almost certainly port the same package to blu-ray (I think digitalbits has already said as much.) So they are selling tos-r, not TOS in the highest-end look. EDIT ADDON: Have I even mentioned the word BLU-RAY before this post?

I wouldn't expect SERIOUS discussion from you, but the way you answer posts really reads like paralogia to me. Anything to escape a genuine issue I suppose.
