The problem of employers putting pressure on doctors to return injured employees to the job sooner than is medically wise is a problem that goes far beyond the realm of professional athletics. Still though, its not something that would fly as a civil matter.

I'm not familiar with all the law in all the states but in California, even if there is concrete proof that an employer used it's influence to get a doctor to return an employee to work too soon, thereby increasing medical damage, the only recourse (against the employer) remains Workers Comp -- not a civil lawsuit. This is true regardless of a "sponsorship agreement" (whatever that means).

But team influence is a big problem in the NFL and other sports. That is the reason Andrew Bynum of the Lakers had a doctor of his choosing examine his knee. And that is what led to his being out for the rest of the NBA season. The Lakers wanted him back before the playoffs. That kid and his Mom are smart.

Well that was nice of him to prevent the team from properly training another player at his position during preseason and being able to keep said player during the final cut.

Don't you remember that it's all about Shawn?

This attitude is unfortunately becoming more and more common in sports, it seems.

I wouldn't be TOO hard on Shawn. The guy who will be his replacement now was ready to go before the season started, when the club was trying to get him to go for the surgery. He was ready then, he's ready now.
