Foreign-language films

Amélie
The City of Lost Children
A Very Long Engagement (okay, I am a Jean-Pierre Jeunet fan)

What--no love for Delicatessen?

The Triplets of Belleville

That was a seriously fucked-up cartoon.

At some point, I want to check out Ringu, but I have to be in the right mood for it. While I love The Ring, it really got to me at the time.

I saw Ringu years ago--in the year 2000, actually, while I was in London, along with a number of the foreign films like Beau Travail, Bandit Queen, and Himalaya.

When we got out of Ringu, I made two predictions to my friends: that Hollywood would remake that movie; and the remake would suck.

Happily, I was only three-quarters right. They did remake it--but the remake didn't suck. The sequel to the remake sucked.

^That reminds me of "The Vanishing" (aka Spoorloos). The Dutch original was creepy and quiet. It was a very unsettling, and I'll remember that ending forever. The Hollywood remake? As soon as I heard about it, I knew it would SUUUUCK. And it did. It took everything that was effective about the film and chucked it out the window.

I have seen Raise the Red Lantern numerous times. I've seen a couple of other Gong Li movies as well, but can't recall their titles.

I tried watching Satyricon once... and lasted about 3 minutes before I felt sick and turned it off. That is one revolting movie! :alienblush:

I've always meant to watch Satyricon, if only for its sheer excess. I love Fellini, but he could get unhinged sometimes.

Not so much films, although as others have stated a good movie is good reguardless of where it comes from. I've seen mostly asian cinema (Japanese, Chinese) films as far as forign films go. I've also watched a few Russian movies

On the other hand I'm a huge fan Japanese animation and have seen 530 various works. Some of them were films, but the majority are series.

Only because I haven't seen it. YET. I plan on checking it out when I can.

Fucked up, yes, but it was also DAMN FUN! :D

Yeah, I haven't bothered with the sequel, but I think that was mostly because the first one affected me so much. But like I said, I do want to give Ringu a shot when I'm in the right mood (and probably in good company).

Delicatessen has been in my Netflix queue for months. I need to move it to the top. JPJ is filming a movie called Micmaca a tire-larigot right now. It's about the illegal gun trade... or something.

^If that's the case you should enjoy it. That was the first thing I said after seeing it, "That was bloody weird". On thinking about it more though, I did quite enjoy it!
